xomandoe Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Im currently looking to either buying the affinity suite or starting up a private Creative Cloud account from adobe this fall when my previous student access to both will run out. The pricing for affinity is what has me leaning towards affinity over adobe. I also do not have any need for the extensive list of other programs that adobe features. My biggest concern before deciding however, is do i have to buy affinity for both mac and windows to use it on both or does purchasing for one OS give you access to download it on both? Quote
xomandoe Posted August 8, 2021 Author Posted August 8, 2021 Another question arose and that is, do I have to rebuy the affinity programs after each update? Quote
Komatös Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Hello @xomandoe First question is yes. You must pay for each system architecture. But you can use them, If you use as private at many mashines per system architecture. Second: No. Only major updates to next level versions like 2.x, 3.x have to buy it again. Hadrian Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Hi Komatos, Could I ask a quick follow up question(s) please... 1.) If I buy Affinity on the Mac I also have to buy the iPad app seperately is that the case or will my Apple ID cover me for both? 2.) And do you think the software works best on a Mac or a PC? Much appreciated, Hadrian Quote

No, you will have to buy separate licences for each platform, Mac and iPad. 11 minutes ago, Hadrian said: And do you think the software works best on a Mac or a PC? That depends on who you ask. A Mac user will tell you that Mac is best. A PC user will tell you that a PC is best. I have never used a Mac, so I cannot really advise. I'm used to a PC but am buying a Macbook this week for work on my apps. Just trying to figure out which would have the least painful learning curve! Thanks John! Quote
John Rostron Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 @Hadrian As I said, I have never laid finger on a Mac. I would guess that the learning curve would be on getting used to the general differences between a Mac and a PC rather than any differences in the Affinity implementations. And you will find some features in Affinity programs in different places than in the PC versions. For me, the biggest disadvantage is that you can't easily swap hardware (e. g. SSD or RAM) on the newer Macbooks.
