1.10.0 Some Chinese fonts cannot be displayed in the font list |

Recommended Posts

Some Chinese fonts I installed (such as SourceHanSerifSC, SourceHanSansSC) cannot be displayed in the font list of Affinity Designer, but other Chinese fonts can be displayed and used normally (such as OPPO Sans, Pingfang)

My AD version is 1.10 The system version is macOS 11.5.1

How to fix this problem, thank you

The Source Han Sans and Source Han Serif fonts are available in many different formats.
They are one of the very few font families which offer OTC files - OpenType-PS (OTF) fonts in a collection format - like OpenType-TT (TTF) files in a TTC.
Very few applications currently support OTC font collections.
So exactly which font files are you testing?

Also the collection files are huge - IIRC they have 41 fonts in one file - and each font has over 65,000 characters.
It takes a lot of system power and memory just to open the files.

LibreTraining, thank you for your reply.

I found a solution to the problem.

Because I am a Chinese user, the software interface language is Simplified Chinese, which causes problems with the font list display. When I set the interface to English, everything works fine. But this also results in Chinese fonts that can only be displayed in English names, which is not very friendly to Chinese users.

Hope the official can fix this problem.

Hi @M1ll3t & @Revir-,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums and we're sorry to hear you're having trouble!

I can confirm this is a known bug and is with our developers to be resolved as soon as possible.
As you've mentioned, setting the apps language to English does temporarily resolve this issue, however the font names will then be displayed in English, rather than in Chinese/Japanese respectively. I'll be sure to 'bump' this log with your reports now.

I can confirm it's possible to roll back to a previous version, depending on the platform you're using and where the app was purchased from.
If you'd like to roll back the app, can you please confirm for me:

  • Are you using Windows, Mac or iPad?
  • Was the app purchased from the Affinity Store, Apple App Store or the Microsoft Store?

Many thanks in advance :)

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!
