I am seeing very dull output from any printing I do in Designer or Photo.  I have tried everything I could find on how to assign profiles, set up the printer settings but nothing seems to changes the put.  I get varying degrees of dull.  I tried saturating the image a bit to try and attempt it to trick the printing to be less dull but that just ended up making the colors whiter not more vivid..

I am using an HP color laser printer with glossy laser paper.  This printer prints hi rez photos with no issues so it's not the printer.  I have only experienced this with affinity software.  One other thing that seems like a bug... when I set custom paper in the custom print dialog or indeed any custom settings in the printer dialog, it doesn't print anything,  It's very frustrating.  Does anyone have any knowledge of how best to fix this?

Hi @Frameshifter,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble here!

This may be due to the colour profile your document is using, your printer profile, or perhaps even your monitors profile changing the colour of objects on screen - causing your print to appear differently.

Can you please confirm for me:

  • What colour profile are you using for your document in Affinity?
  • What colour profile are you using for your printer?
  • Do you have a non-default ICC profile assigned to your monitor, through your OS?

Creative apps, including Affinity, have 'Soft-proofing', which allows you to view the document on screen with a 'paper-profile', meaning the document will be displayed much closer to how it will appear when printed. Can you please confirm for me, have you used Soft Proofing in your document at all?

Many thanks in advance :)
