Sometimes when I insert a graphic, either by using the Place Image Tool or by using the Place command in the File Menu, I can then give the graphic a border using the convenient control in the tooobar. But sometimes that option is not in the toolbar, although all the other stuff is there (graphic name, image size, trim box, replace etc.,) Where has it gone? And why? If I can’t give the graphic a border there, then trying to do so using the Colour and Stroke panels doesn’t work either.

Maybe it is something simple I have overlooked but it is driving me crazy! I am using v.1.9.3 on a Mac running Mojave.

Main machine is 2024 24" iMac running Sequoia 15.2 with 8GB of RAM. Also have 2022 12" Macbook Air also running Sequoia 15.2, also with 8GB of RAM. On the side I have a 2019 27" iMac running Mojave 10.14.6 because that is the last OS that lets me run Adobe software without getting dragged into the subscription spiderweb.

Is this related to your previous post on this topic?

If it's a different problem, can you give us some more information or maybe a full-size screenshot (including the Layers panel with the graphics layer selected?)

Yes, carl123, it is the same problem. The reply I got last time told from walt.farrell me the “JPG, TIFF, and PNG are image (raster) files. Others are documents.” I‘m sorry I did not post in the same thread but had forgotten I had posted before (that happens when you are stryuggling with new software and just not getting the hang of it.)

I can understand that vector graphics are not raster files but surely .psd files should still be regarded raster files? After all, they are made up of pixels. What is it I am failing to understand?

.PSD files can be a mix of vector, raster, adjustment layers and Smart Objects and therefore are classed as a Document and not a simple Raster format, similar to .PDF files.

Raster formats are typically documents that are only pixel data, and they tend to be a singular image layer when imported into Affinity such as JPEG, TIFF, PNG, etc.

I hope this clears things up :)
