Seems to work OK here

Can you upload a screenshot of what you are seeing, with the FX dialogue open?

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Seems you are using the Outer Shadow effect for this (you can use the Outer Glow as well). If that's the case make sure you set the Blend mode to Normal or Screen, check the Opacity value and increase the Intensity as required to see the white "glow".

The Shadow FX has a specific offset setting/tool but the Outer Glow does not.

You can simulate moving the Outer Glow by adding a duplicate of the object and adding the glow to that, then moving that object.  (Note: The gaussian blur layer is added to simulate the Outer Glow effect throughout the duplicated object.)

But it all depends on the effect you are looking to achieve. If you can upload a sample of what you want, you may get more targeted/specific advice.
