For a band-shooting, I masked the band members, to work on them separatly than the background of that picture. I put a lot of work in creating that mask.

When I save and reopen the file, I double-click the mask and say "refine mask". The "selcetion refinement"-dialogue pops up and shows via preset "10 % edge width". OK, no problem, I don't need that "halo" around my selection, I reduce it back to zero. BUT: the halo-effect stays, my mask edges are destroyed and are not as before.

So I am not able, to refine a mask (example given: to feather the edges), after saving.

I tried this with several pictures and masks: allways the same behavior, the preset is destroying my mask-edges! There are ugly elements staying at the edges even after reducing the edge-width.

Example: Look at the t-shirt of the right guy at the lower right side. There was a clear, clean edge before using "Mask refinement".

Hi Finnweis,
I've been checking exactly this - seems there's an workflow issue in the process. You can untick the first checkbox on the top left to prevent the Refine dialog to process the edges as soon as you load the mask but then you will run into other issues. Can you give it a try (untick the box) and tell us how things go for you and what issues (if any) you will run into? Thanks.

As a back up I save my selections to a Spare Channel then I can always reload them to a new mask. I have had similar problems with refine mask and was told to uncheck Matte Edges. I don't understand what its doing and think there maybe some problems there.
