Windows Version 1.9.2.1035 (though also in MacOS 1.9.3)

Have been able to reproduce with the same source SVG, but not others so I am expecting it will be something to do with that.

Steps:

  • Import SVG from Inkscape (attached)
  • Remove all layers except COLOR and GLOSS-V
  • Ungroup all grouped items under each layer.
  • For GLOSS-V only select all and apply a swatch for Roland Versa Works (afdesign attached at this point)
  • Export as PDF (attached)

PDF export settings:

Expected: PDF exports with the 2 layers when re-opened in Designer. (example from another project)

Actual: PDF exports with GLOSS-V as sub layer of COLOR.

I have done this process a number of times for various projects, other than this 1 they all work as expected.  For this source SVG I have always had the export happen as above even if I delete GLOSS-V in Designer and duplicate COLOUR and apply the swatch to that.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi themaninthesuitcase,

It looks like this is being caused by the column of points on the left hand side. They're slightly falling outside the document which may be confusing the exporter and modifying the layer order. If I reset them to all be 0 (for both the Gloss and Colour layers) it exports correctly. I've attached both the resaved afdesign file (from your one) and the resulting PDF using your settings shown above.

I'll pass this on to development to have a look into

Just to add to this in case it helps anyone, I've had similar problems recently but it was nothing to do with objects falling outside the document as far as I could see. In my case I had hidden and locked objects in groups within the layer that appears to have confused the exporter. Purging all hidden objects resolved the issue. The effect was that objects "floated up" to the top level of the document outside of their parent layer in AD. This was time-critical for plate prep so I didn't have time to search or post here and was manually creating the separations when I discovered it. Build 1.10.1.1142 and Window 10 Pro 21H1.
