Hi, currently trialling Affinity, coming from CS6.

Using an XP-Pen pen and tablet, I start Affinity and have to click the icon in the tool bar to turn on pen pressure sensitivity. Next time I start Affinity I have to click the icon again. Is it possible to make this setting sticky?

Hello @stefanjan, welcome to the forums.

Where do you set the pressure sensitivity? In the tablet software?

In the Affinity programmes you can define the pressure sensitivity in the brush preferences.

MAC mini M4 | MacOS Sequoia 15.5 | 16 GB RAM | 256 GB SSD
AMD Ryzen 7 5700X | Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9060 XT 16 GB  | 32 GB DDR4 3200MHz | Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (26100.4351)

Windows 11 Pro on VMWare Virtual Machine (on Mac)
Affinity Suite V 2.6.3 & Beta 2.6 (latest)

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I know how to set pressure sensitivity, I have it set to high.

When I start Affinity, the pressure sensitivity on the brush does not work. I have to click the icon in the attached screenshot.

Now when I increase pressure, the brush draws a thicker line.

When I start Affinity again, the icon has defaulted to off. How do I set it so that it stays on.

I don't think you can, and I think that's by design. Changes to most of the settings in the Context Toolbar for the Brush Tool (Opacity, Flow, Hardness, Symmetry, Mirror lock etc) are not retained between restarts.

However, if you hover your cursor over that button, you'll get a tooltip:

The clue's in "brush defaults'. If you click the More button to the left, you'll be able to edit the default settings for the chosen brush, including Dynamics:

The settings for the brushes in the Default set don't include pressure controls by default, but you can add them here, for example by changing Size Jitter to 100% and the controller to Pressure:

(Notice the difference in brush shape at the top of the panel after making the change.)

These brush editing settings are retained if you quit and restart the app. My 16px basic Round brush is now permanently* affected by pressure:

* EDIT: well, semi-permanently. I can always change it back to the way it was, or do a full brush reset when starting the app.
