bluntlarry Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 After using the Selection brush and then using refine I keep getting Feathering around the subject. Help appreciated . Quote
R C-R Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Is it actually feathering or just that there are pixels that are still not included when you refine the selection? EDIT: also, why do you have "Soft Edges" enabled? user_0815 Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Try turning off contrast edge detection in the refine process. Then it will only refine the original election edges. Quote

I do not see anything by that name in the Refine Selection window. Do you perhaps mean what in the English version is called "Matte edges"? AffinityJules Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 What you're experiencing is left over junk when using the refine tool after making a selection. Personally I keep well away from the refine tool because it always disappoints and needs improvement. It works with some images but is disastrous in others. And how a tool can place elements outside of the boundary/parameters that have been set are totally beyond my comprehension. I've never understood it. Quote Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe. These are not my own words but I sure like this quote.
jdvoracek Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 I have been a LOT HAPPIER with refine since I learned what each of the controls does by practice after studying Help > [search]Refining pixel selection edges. Sometimes I do just skip refining selections, but not for hair, trees, etc. GL! user_0815, h_d and R C-R 3 Quote
bluntlarry Posted August 1, 2021 Author Posted August 1, 2021 first thank you all for your advice. And as you see I reduce the ramp in refine, and it seems to have worked. Quote
RNKLN Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 In addition, you can always use the paint brush on the mask layer and 'paint away' the pixels outside the main object. Quote Affinity Photo - Affinity Designer - Affinity Publisher | macOS Sequoia (15.4) on 16GB MBP14 2021 with 2.6.x versions
