Hi @Caroline Beaudry,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)

Can you please confirm for me:

  • What font are you using in your document?
  • What PDF export settings are in use? (a screenshot of these settings, including the 'More...' options would be perfect)
  • Does this happen with every document, or only the one shown in the above image?

Many thanks in advance!

The font used is Gibson. It does happen with every document.

Try to uncheck Subset Fonts. But I am not sure it helps in your case.

I still get the strange characters.

What kind of font is this? Type1, OTF, TTF? And where do you got it from?

Any idea what causes this?

Garbled text which looks like that (like text on top of text) is often the result of having multiple copies of a font installed.

See instructions here:

Thanks for confirming that for me @Caroline Beaudry & my apologies for the delayed response here!

I can verify that I downloaded and installed Gibson-regular from the following link, then installed this through Windows. (https://freefontsvault.com/gibson-font-download-free/

I created a test document in Publisher, using Filler Text ('Expanded' into regular body text), then exported this to PDF using the same settings shown above.

The resultant document appears correctly in multiple PDF viewers, with the font glyphs correctly displayed -

Can you please confirm for me, did any of the above suggestions help resolve this issue for you? :)

Every time I try to export a Publisher spread in pdf, I get a pdf filled with strange characters as you can see in the attachments.

When you open the PDF file in Adobe Reader and look at the Fonts tab in the Document Properties dialog, what does it tell you about the font type and encoding?
