Hello everybody:

I have a question regarding changing the colour profile of a document. The help says:

For applying a different colour profile, Assign adopts the new profile but leaves the values of the colours/pixels as is. Convert converts each colour from the old profile to the new one—colour/pixel values may change as a result.

I have proved it and what it does is the following (for example):

Asign: if into sRGB I have an HSL colour value 81:100:50, asign will keep HSL 81:100:50 when I change the profile to AdobeRGB.

Convert: if into sRGB I have an HSL colour value 81:100:50, convert will change HSL value. I think looking for the most similar colour, but I really don´t know.

Could anyone tell me about this?

Thanks.

Hi Spsorrel,

Convert will keep the values of the colour which will result in a colour change after converting. Assign will try and keep the colour of the object as close as possible to the original, depending on the gamut of the target profile which will result in the colour values being different. The behaviour you have described is to be expected.

Thanks
C

Isn't that description backwards, Callum?

I thought that Convert tried to keep the colors close, and Assign kept the numbers.

Thank you all for the answers.

Yep. Convert = keep the appearance, Assign = keep the values.

I think this is right, as I posted before. But I wanted a confirmation about this was right and I wasn´t confussed; and over all, that Convert looks for the most similar colour but doesn´t exactly match (depending of the colour profiles).

Thank you all.
