Hi there,

for some reason both Designer and Photo won't start anymore. If I try to start any of the application "nothing" happens. I can see them briefly (less than 1 second) in the task manager but that's it. It just disappears.

I use them on Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.19041 Build 19041.

There aren't any crash reports.

I tried the version 1.9.2, 1.9.0 and 1.8.5.

What can I do?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @Proudcastle. :)

You can reset the apps by clearing your user data. Press the Ctrl key on your keyboard, keep it held down while you launch the app that you want to reset, and then release it when the ‘Clear User Data’ dialog is displayed.

The first three options in the dialog are checked by default, and it’s best to try pressing ‘Clear’ with only those options checked. If that doesn’t allow the app to start up correctly, try again but press ‘Select All’ before pressing ‘Clear’; before you do this, make sure you’ve backed up any custom brushes, assets, macros, etc, that you don’t want to lose.

Hi Alfred,

thanks for your help but unfortunately I can't launch the applications. If I press and hold CTRL and click on e.g. Designer to launch it nothing happens. Well the cursor show the loading indicator for a second but that's it.

This comes up with Mac users and the answer involves "Did you actually quit the application?" On Mac we can have the application running with no window on the screen, so it appears that nothing is happening. Try starting and using the keyboard shortcut for New file or Open file.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

That’s a good point. On Windows it can look a though nothing is happening because the app isn’t listed on the Applications tab in Windows Task Manager, but there may be a lingering process from a previous failed attempt to launch the app. It’s worth checking the Processes tab to see if there are any Affinity processes that need to be killed; alternatively, rebooting the machine is the simplest and surest way of clearing out any such things.

I checked the task manager but neither Photo nor Designer is anywhere listed. Not as an app or as a background process.
