Robby Poole Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 I got the new beta version, hoping to see much improvement in it. And while there is some improvement, I am still experiencing crashing. Here is a video to show the crash – It starts with me selecting a graphic I need to replace. I delete the graphic, I go to the Place tool to place the graphic is new. I find the file I want. I place it on the page. It places it on the page 100 times too large. I go to scale down the graphic (an SVG graphic), and BOOM...... "Application quit unexpectedly". Initially the file was using PDFs as the music examples (each music example line was a PDF of the specified dimension for the example), and that file would crash a ton. The 1.9.4.XXXX beta crashed a little less. Someone gave me the suggestion to use picture frames and TIFFs versus all of these little PDFs. So I moved to picture frames with TIFFs. The crashing minimized A LOT, but never completely went away. I have found that if I try to draw a picture frame with a border that the it crashes 99% of the time. I have it crash about 30% just trying to add a blank picture frame. I have shared previous files of this with no one giving me a solid answer, but at the time I was worried about copyright and only shared a cut down version. I am at a point where I will share the entire document (with the understanding that this is copyrighted material, and will be removed and/or deleted once all testing has been accomplished). I really like this software. I want it to succeed. And fixing an issue like this helps push this software forward. Screen Recording 2021-07-26 at 1.21.06 PM.mov Does any body have an idea? Does any body need further information? Thanks is advance! Robby
Robby Poole Posted July 26, 2021 Author Posted July 26, 2021 If it helps at all...... All of the music graphic files are loaded onto my external USB 3.0 hard drive. Thanks, Robby

Staff Gabe Posted July 27, 2021 Staff Posted July 27, 2021 Hi @Robby Poole, I guess the issue is related to this doc by the sounds of it. Can you replicate the crash by placing the same file in a new empty document? You can upload your main document using this link in the meantime: https://www.dropbox.com/request/jwivFTCr9zkwWjVlPjQy
Robby Poole Posted July 27, 2021 Author Posted July 27, 2021 Gabe, I packaged the entire document and am sending it to you now through the Dropbox link, waiting for the upload to complete. It doesn't seem to matter which graphic I try to import. Sometimes the app crashes when I try to draw a picture frame, with nothing in it. Sometimes, I can add a graphic. Most of the time, I deal with a crash. The document has well over 900 graphics. Perhaps I have exceeded some buffer somewhere? I am trying to attach another graphic for you to try to add anywhere. We will see if this works..... it is telling me 20+ minutes on the upload. Dropbox is always finicky with me. Is there a way I can share this with you through iCloud Drive or Google Drive? Thanks, Robby
Robby Poole Posted July 27, 2021 Author Posted July 27, 2021 (edited) @Gabe, Packaged contents are finished uploading to the Dropbox link. I hope it works. I also attached an extra file for you to try to place anywhere in the document. Please keep me posted on any findings. Thank you very much for looking into this! Robby Poole Posted July 27, 2021 Author Posted July 27, 2021 Please don't JINX it...... This morning I updated to macOS 11.5.1, and so far I have added 4 graphics and no crashing. Perhaps something has changed in the OS to prevent the crashing? Robby
Robby Poole Posted July 27, 2021 Author Posted July 27, 2021 Spoke too soon. Went to work, came home on a short break to try to get more done. Back to crashing about 75% of the time when adding in the graphics. Robby
Staff Pauls Posted August 2, 2021 Staff Posted August 2, 2021 Seems to be related to metal acceleration according to that crash report Can you try turning off metal acceleration and see if it becomes more stable Robby Poole 1
Robby Poole Posted August 2, 2021 Author Posted August 2, 2021 Where do I find that? Robby Edit: I found it!
Robby Poole Posted August 2, 2021 Author Posted August 2, 2021 I turned it off, and it seems to be a little more stable with the 3 minute test I did. I will continue to run like this and see what happens. I will make additional comments here. Robby
Robby Poole Posted August 2, 2021 Author Posted August 2, 2021 @Pauls That may have fixed the issue for me. After about 10 minutes of placing graphics on a blank page, deleting them, adding different graphics to the same page, deleting those, and doing this pattern over and over the program never crashed. There was a moment I was placing about 20 graphics, and the program gave me the spinning wheel for about 10 seconds, but it carried on. I still have work to do on this book. So I will try to continue working like this. As of now, there is no degradation to the apps performance with the Metal acceleration turned off. Robby
Staff Pauls Posted August 2, 2021 Staff Posted August 2, 2021 I've recreated something similar and have raised a report for it Robby Poole 1
