Hello all,

I have been exporting PDFs with 2 layers with no problems until now.

My document has 5 layers;  3 are hidden and 2 are visible: COLOR and WHITE

When I export as a PDF i make sure not to export hidden layers

when I open the exported PDF as a sanity check the COLOR layer gets embedded as a sub-layer of the WHITE layer, not as two layers.  Like i said it's worked in the past with other files but this particular file is giving me a headache.

It should look like this when the pdf is opened:

Thanks

Hi @zillaand Welcome to the Forums,

You don't mention which Affinity app you are using or which operating system, but i've done a quick test on MacOS and add 5 layers to a new Affinity Designer document, with something on each layer, i then hide 3 layers and export to PDF.  When i reopen the PDF, it only shows 2 layers as can be seen in the attached screenshot.

Would you be able to attach your Affinity file?

Hey guys,

I am running into the same issue and it also worked for me before. I have an Affinity file with 3 layers and when I export to PDF, the other 2 layers are getting embedded in the WHITE layer. I am not doing anything different with the export settings. What settings did you use @stokerg?

Cheers

Frank

after a lot of messing around I was able to find the problem.  Perhaps this is a known bug in the software?

If *ANY* of the artwork contained in the layers is outside of the page dimensions, even if it's cropped down to fit, the PDF layer export will poop itself.

Hello,

I'm also having the same issue. And that worked before (not sure on which version of Affinity).

Like @zillaand @diezelmonster666, I'm sending the PDF to a printer that uses AI and sees the file as a "clipped group" layer and not like the structure I see.

When I reopen the exported file in Acrobat Reader or Affinity all the layers are there.

To export the PDF I'm using the preset "PDF/X-4".
