brockenflabel Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 I watched 3 or 4 tutorials on affinity photo luts. I created my own luts, saved as high quality and .cube I tried importing and applying that lut, no effect. I tried downloading other peoples .cube luts from internet and applying it, no effect? It should be simple right? Thanks. p.s. unrelated topic, why does it take ten minutes to view 40 files in file folder? each time? Quote

As it's unrelated it would be better to start a separate topic. More details would also be helpful when you do that. For example, what file viewer? What do you mean by "view 40 files"? Again, a screenshot for context and some detailed steps for what you're doing. Maybe even a short video. brockenflabel Posted July 23, 2021 Author Posted July 23, 2021 How I imported the Lut? I selected Adjustments from the layers panel. I then selected LUTS. Then LOAD Luts. (loaded .cube) Thats it. Thanks. Quote
Staff stokerg Posted July 23, 2021 Staff Posted July 23, 2021 Hi @brockenflabel, Can you attach one of the LUT files you are importing? Also you don't mention which operating system you are running Affinity on, so is it MacOS (if so which version), Windows or iPadOS? Quote

brockenflabel Posted July 27, 2021 Author Posted July 27, 2021 I have Windows 10. Is that the problem? Why sell Affinity Photo for Windows 10, if it doesn't work? I wondered if Affinity was simply too slow, even tho I have a gaming laptop, 32 gigs dual channel ram. and 8 gig gaming video card. So after loading the LUT I waited a full ten minutes to see what would happen.....nothing. I tried several other LUTS, including my own LUTS, still nothing. But thank you very much for atleast trying. Maybe its some kind of setting in Preferences has to be enabled? Thats my guess, not sure. 01_Wedding LUTs_Sunrise.cube Quote

No there isn't a setting that needs enabling but one might need disabling in this case, as I've just imported your LUT file you attached without issue on our Windows 10 test machine i have access to. Please see attached screenshot, you LUT has been added to the bottom of the LUTs Adjustment List and i've been able to apply it to an image without issue. One thing you can try, if you go into Preferences and on the Performance section at the bottom, there is an option for openCL, disable that, restart Affinity and try importing the LUT again. While i've not seen openCL affect importing LUTs, i have seen it cause other issues, so be worth just checking that out. Quote
walt.farrell Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 I can confirm that your LUT file loads properly for me, too. stokerg 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. brockenflabel Posted July 29, 2021 Author Posted July 29, 2021 I checked preferences, opencl was already disabled. Don't know if this is useful, but when I went thru blending modes for the LUT. It simply changed brightness levels on all of them, except Contrast Negative, which changed the color to some weird freaky color scheme. Is that info useful? Thanks. Quote

Depending on the LUT and the image its applied to, what you describe sounds correct. Are you LUTs now appearing in Affinity? If not, are you running any of the mentioned apps on this link? Quote
brockenflabel Posted July 29, 2021 Author Posted July 29, 2021 I thought LUTs were supposed to change the color? If I wanted brightness levels changed I can just use the Brightness/contrast adjustment I don't need LUTs. I was hoping it would change the color in some way. I tried several Luts but no change to color only slight changes in brightness with blending modes. I also tried different ICC profiles and jpg and png files, still nothing. No I'm not running any of the apps you listed. I uninstalled Affinity Photo then ran Revo Uninstaller to clear out any left over stuff. Then reinstalled Affinity, but still no change. Quote

LUTs do change color, but depending on the image and the LUT the change may be subtle or dramatic. Here's the original of one of my images. Note the image colors and the Histogram: Here it is with your LUT applied: Note, in the Histogram, the changes in the Red channel at the high end, and in the Blue at the low to mid range. To me (looking at the full images on my monitor) the effect could be taken as an effect on brightness, but it's really a decrease in Blue and an increase in Red, which I can also see in another image I tried it on stokerg and Alfred 2 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Staff stokerg Posted July 30, 2021 Staff Posted July 30, 2021 @walt.farrellGreat explanation of how LUTs work, if i could double like your post i would @brockenflabelCould you try using the beta and see if your LUTs import then? You can get the beta from here. As stands, both myself and Walt haven't been able to replicate the issue you are having importing the LUT file you attached here, so i don't know why it wouldn't be working for you. walt.farrell 1 Quote
brockenflabel Posted July 30, 2021 Author Posted July 30, 2021 I think its working. The images I used at first were my artwork, which didn't seem to have any color changes applied. But when I used some of my photos from my camera, it changed the colors of the photos. So I mistakenly assumed it could be applied to all image types not just photos from a camera. I still want to be able to have more color control power than just Seletive Color and HSL,HSV, so I guess I will use Resolve and that free 3DLut plugin that you can get. So I would consider this thread resolved. Thankyou guys, sorry for taking so long to figure this out. walt.farrell 1 Quote
