Hi, I am new to Affinity. How do I make my barcode visible on a pre-fabricated template (Ingram Sparks)? Also, I can’t get my barcode to move and the layer is not locked. Watched numerous videos before posting, but couldn’t find the answers.  Thank you!

Welcome to the forums @Natalie King

It may help us to know what’s happening if you give us more details.
For example:
1. Which Affinity application are you using?
2. Where did you get your barcode from?
3. What sort of layer is the barcode? (Curves, Pixel, Image, Embedded Document, etc.)
4. What do you mean by “pre-fabricated template”?
5. What does your Layers Panel look like when the barcode is selected? (Full-screen screen-grabs are good.)

The more information we have, the better we can help you.

The template is an Ingram Sparks with embedded barcode. I cannot free the barcode from the template. When I try to move the barcode above the layers, the entire template shows. The barcode is below the layers.

Hi @Natalie King

Did.you try cutting and pasting the selected object (97....pdf) on top of the design?

[edit] Affinity apps always paste at the same position.

You can also check if it's in the Master pages: in this case right-click the Master page Layer to modify it.

It looks as though this file has been Placed as an Embedded document, meaning you need to open this document within your file to edit it further.

With the file selected, you can see the 'Edit Document' option on the context toolbar. If you select this, you should find the Template opens in a new window, where you should be able to edit the barcode as required :)

Hi Wosven, thanks you for your help. I have tried cut and paste but the no fill doesn't work.  My dark blue background hides it.

Hi Dan. Thanks for you help. This hleped me to cut and past the barcode on top of the dark blue background, but I can't get no fill, so the barcode remains hidden. This silly little barcode issue is all I have left to having a complete cover design. Those little hiccups!

Unless you want to test different designs with the barcode at the same position, you don't need it on the master page.

You can duplicate your pages to test other designs and move around items/change colors.

Check in the layers panel, it may be a vectorised barcode like this example EPS, so when selected it looks like this...

As wosven says it might be an accidental colour change.

It's not an accidental color change. I haven't noticed anyone else's barcode do this on the book design videos I watched. I guess if it's not correct, Ingram will kick it back to me - LOL. At least its not behind the layers! -Mighty thanks to Wosven!  Thanks Firstdefense! I guess it is like you said, supposed to look like that when highlighted.

If it disappears it's either behind something or it has no fill.
