Natalie King Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 Hi, I am new to Affinity. How do I make my barcode visible on a pre-fabricated template (Ingram Sparks)? Also, I can’t get my barcode to move and the layer is not locked. Watched numerous videos before posting, but couldn’t find the answers. Thank you! Quote
GarryP Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 Welcome to the forums @Natalie King It may help us to know what’s happening if you give us more details. For example: 1. Which Affinity application are you using? 2. Where did you get your barcode from? 3. What sort of layer is the barcode? (Curves, Pixel, Image, Embedded Document, etc.) 4. What do you mean by “pre-fabricated template”? 5. What does your Layers Panel look like when the barcode is selected? (Full-screen screen-grabs are good.) The more information we have, the better we can help you. Quote
Natalie King Posted July 23, 2021 Author Posted July 23, 2021 The template is an Ingram Sparks with embedded barcode. I cannot free the barcode from the template. When I try to move the barcode above the layers, the entire template shows. The barcode is below the layers. Quote
Wosven Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 Hi @Natalie King Did.you try cutting and pasting the selected object (97....pdf) on top of the design? [edit] Affinity apps always paste at the same position. You can also check if it's in the Master pages: in this case right-click the Master page Layer to modify it. Quote

With the file selected, you can see the 'Edit Document' option on the context toolbar. If you select this, you should find the Template opens in a new window, where you should be able to edit the barcode as required Alfred and MikeW 2 Quote

Hi Wosven, thanks you for your help. I have tried cut and paste but the no fill doesn't work. My dark blue background hides it. Quote

This hleped me to cut and past the barcode on top of the dark blue background, but I can't get no fill, so the barcode remains hidden. This silly little barcode issue is all I have left to having a complete cover design. Those little hiccups! Quote
Wosven Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 @Natalie King You don't reaaly need "this" barcode, you can hide it and paste your own on top of the other elements. Quote

Wosven Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Did you try putting a white rectangle below? If the barcode is on top, it should be visible (I suppose it's black on transparent background). Quote
Natalie King Posted July 24, 2021 Author Posted July 24, 2021 Yeah, I did put a white rectangle. My barcode is now highlighted bright blue and does not appear in my Master. Quote
Wosven Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Unless you want to test different designs with the barcode at the same position, you don't need it on the master page. You can duplicate your pages to test other designs and move around items/change colors. Quote
Natalie King Posted July 24, 2021 Author Posted July 24, 2021 Thanks for your help. It is where it is supposed to be. Not sure why it is highlighted blue? Quote
Wosven Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 I don't know either. Is the original black? Try selecting the barcode and checking the color panel, perhaps you inadvertently colour it in cyan. Quote
firstdefence Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 Check in the layers panel, it may be a vectorised barcode like this example EPS, so when selected it looks like this... As wosven says it might be an accidental colour change. 978173746430351599.eps Quote iMac 27" 2019 Sequoia 15.0 (24A335), iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... Natalie King Posted July 25, 2021 Author Posted July 25, 2021 It's not an accidental color change. I haven't noticed anyone else's barcode do this on the book design videos I watched. I guess if it's not correct, Ingram will kick it back to me - LOL. At least its not behind the layers! -Mighty thanks to Wosven! Thanks Firstdefense! I guess it is like you said, supposed to look like that when highlighted. Quote
Natalie King Posted July 25, 2021 Author Posted July 25, 2021 Wait, my bad - I slept last night - forgot a detail. Once I click outside of the page, the barcode disappears. Quote
firstdefence Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 If it disappears it's either behind something or it has no fill. Natalie King Posted July 26, 2021 Author Posted July 26, 2021 I set fill to black, but it is still bright blue. When I click the magnifier or something else, it disappears, but returns when I click textbox tool. Quote
