Thanks for letting me know, please do keep me up to date with how the new drivers behave for you :)

Then I cropped it so that should have reduced it.  The next thing I did is resize the document and that's what exploded the file size. I checked other files and it seems pretty consistent. Most files are around the same 2.5 GB but if I've resized the document it jumps up to 12 or more.

What physical sizes are you resizing from and to please? ie 100px x 200px -> 1000px x 2000px?

Howdy,

Had a power out while a file was open, tried to open it up and got file corrupted, and looked in the autosave folder and the files in there were all 0 byte.

File is only 70mb.

Have ever thought about also having full saves auto saves additional. based on settings i guess (off being default to not kill peoples systems, and not as often)

anyways, possible to have the file looked at? which there was an online service to attempt to auto recover files :P

Hi @Derek S,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)

Sorry to hear of the trouble you've had since this power-outage!

I can certainly log the files with our developers, however we unfortunately can't provide any guarantee that the file is recoverable.

Can you please upload this document to the below link for me, then let me know once it's been uploaded?

Many thanks in advance!

No problem at all, thanks for providing your file!

I believe I've been able to recover all the data, which I have sent through Dropbox to the email associated with your account (you should receive an email with a link for the file shortly).

Please be sure to check the file carefully, as I cannot guarantee that certain settings like the Colour space/Profile have been retained through the recovery process.

USB flash dask. (Micro SD card)

This is likely a cause for the issue you've seen, as external USB devices can be disconnected before the file finishes saving, or an accidental 'knock' can cause issues between the SD card and the system.

For this reason, we always recommend saving Affinity files locally, then copying them to an SD card (so that you have a backup) when you need to be 'mobile' with the file.

I hope this helps :)

Hi @peachi,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble and my apologies for the delayed response here - can you please attach a copy of your Affinity document to your reply here, so I can try and recover this for you?

If you'd like a private upload link for this file, please just let me know :)

Hi @Kano111,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums & I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble also!

I have attempted to repair your document here, however I have thus far been unable, my apologies. Checking your file within a HEX editor, it appears as though a 'chunk' of the file may have been lost, as the repeating characters seen below aren't expected:

image.png

Therefore I will be logging this file with our developers to see if the file can be recovered, however this unfortunately cannot be guaranteed.

I will be sure to reply here with any further information provided by our devs and we offer our sincerest apologies for any inconveniences caused due to this.

Hi Dan. Thanks for trying. I managed to find parts of the file I lost in some other exports I created so only lost a small section. It's not worth the trouble if it's not a quick repair. Thankyou for your response and I will be more careful when saving files in future thatI make multiple copies!

Many thanks for letting me know Kano111 & many thanks for your file peachi :)

I can confirm I've been able to recover your file, though with one pixel layer that requires replacing.

Under the 'mountain calling' group, you have a Rectangle, which has a Pixel layer nested within - the pixel layer nested here has become corrupted, causing the document to fail to save.

Having replaced this layer with an empty pixel layer, I'm able to save and open the file as expected.

I'll be sending the fixed document to your email address via Dropbox now, I hope this helps!

Hi @paulmaad,

Thanks for your file and I'm certainly sorry to hear you're having trouble.

I've tried repairing this document here using the tools available to me but unfortunately I have been unable to recover this at this time, my apologies.

I suspect this is due to missing data when inspecting the file in a HEX editor, though only our developers will be able to confirm this -

image.png

I am logging this file with our developers now for further investigation, but this process can take some time and unfortunately we can offer no guarantees so we recommend reverting to a previous save/backup of the file where possible.

Our sincerest apologies for any insolvencies caused due to this.

No problem at all, once again our apologies for any data lost due to this.

It would be great to know why this error occured to avoid it in the future.

In order to avoid corrupted documents, our developers always recommend opening and saving documents to a local storage disk, then uploading a copy of the file to iCloud. Unfortunately storing Affinity documents in cloud based folders can occasionally cause missing HEX data, as shown in your file above.

I hope this helps :)
