Hi all,

I am new to the forum.

Maybe not the most important feature, but I was looking to build a frame around an image.

Is there a function in AP to do so? Or any alternatives?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum thomasB :)

There are several ways to add a frame to your image. You could follow MEB's advice here or you could use Layer Effects to add an Outline around your image making sure you have Inside selected in the Alignment dropdown.

Hope this helps!

Hi again,

I am following the tutorial to add a border to the image. Creating the new layer using the rectangle tool, the original image is cropped to the size of the new layer. What i want is the original image to stay in its size.  In other words: the border should go outside the image and not reduce it. What to do?  think it must have to do with "inside" oder "outside" function, but I don´t find the place to change this.... ?

Thanks Thomas

Welcome back :)

You could try the following to make it easier:

  • Open your image and go to Document > Resize Canvas.
  • Un-lock the padlock and add 20px to the Height and Width
  • Click the Centre Anchor
  • Click Resize

Now drag out a Rectangle shape over the canvas and press ⇧+⌘+[ to send it behind the image.

Add border to image.mov

Seems your suggestions are from a year ago.

Would be beneficial for update, modern, 2016, tutorials, guides, links, and more help for 2016.

Frustrating when tutorials go 'fast'.   Must repeat them over and over again, to understand.  However, some tutorials or out of date....just my thoughts

My instructions should still work. You could also check out this video tutorial on adding borders: https://vimeo.com/channels/875980/134712830

You could also try the following:

1. Open image into AP

2. Unlock Background Layer

3. Select Move Tool and resize image using the ⌘ modifier - this will resize around the centre.

4. Add Quickshape and move below the Background Layer in the Layers Panel

dmiller, the easy way to get exactly (the same) boarders is to use “Resize Canvas…” (unprop. + centered anchor). In AD is a quicker way.
