Staff Andy Somerfield Posted July 20, 2021 Staff Share Posted July 20, 2021 Status: Release Candidate Purpose: Features, improvements and fixes Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo App Store: Not submitted Download link: Download Hello, We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the fourth build of Affinity Photo 1.10.0 for iOS. If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry. This beta is an incremental update to the 1.9.2 version recently released to all customers (although it still installs parallel to the released version, as described above). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below. Affinity Photo Team Changes Since Last Beta - Avoid spurious brush previews when painting with certain brushes. - Fix issue where context bar controls wouldn't update properly when selecting from a popup menu. - Further patch tool fixes in LAB colour mode. - Obey the document colour space when putting PDF data on the pasteboard. - Fixed a sporadic deadlock issue when hardware acceleration is enabled. - Assorted small fixes. - Localisation improvements. - Help improvements. Changes Since 1.9.2 - Fixed potential crash when typing text. - Fixed potential crash when rendering large panoramas. - Fixed issues when loading small documents into separated mode (documents were rotated). - Fixed live defringe bug when zooming. - Improved defringe performance and increased maximum radius. - Improve performance when multiple Info page samplers are placed on the document. - Improve adjustment layer performance when hardware acceleration is disabled. - Added CR3 support for Canon EOS 850D. - Emoji improvements and fixes. - Improved gradient fill noise rendering. - Lens correction improvements for Canon / Tamron / Sigma lenses. - Fixed issues when refining a selection and outputting as a new layer with mask. - Fixed mesh warp issues. - Fixed issue which was preventing accurate selection of pixel layers. - Fixed Apply Image when used on masks. - Fixed TIFF DPI issues. - Fixed numerous sharpen brush tool issues. - Fixed issues when pasting pixel layers into larger documents. - Added support for emoji 😃👌😻. - Added the ability to load ACM lens profiles. - Added the ability to create a pattern layer from the current selection. - Added GPU acceleration for blending ranges (in Advanced Blending). - Added a new "median" mode to the frequency separation filter. - Restored the GPU rendering improvements which were dropped towards the end of the 1.9.2 beta. The benchmark version is once again set to 1920. - The gradient map adjustment now has a GPU implementation. - Serif Labs RAW engine improvements. - Significant, performance improvements for documents with many layers. - Significant performance improvements when converting documents between ICC profiles / pixel formats. - Significant performance improvements in low-memory situations, reducing use of the swap file. - Significant performance improvements for documents which contain flattened, opaque layers (usually the result of merge visible). - Performance and memory usage improvements when using placed images. - Performance and memory usage improvements when using embedded documents. - Panorama stitching performance improvements. - PDF import and export improvements. - Improve performance when manipulating the selected layer immediately after loading a document. - Fixed issues opening some DNG files. - Fixed Nikon D780 Raw loading when using Serif Labs engine. - Fixed erratic behaviour with placed images. - Fixed lockups when loading certain PSD documents with smart objects enabled. - Fixed issue whereby LUTs would incorrectly report "Identity" as the description. - Fixed performance issues with CMYK documents when GPU acceleration is enabled. - Assorted small fixes. - Localisation improvements. - Help improvements. pruus, AlainP and ronnyb 2

I am assuming that this is the issue that I have been telling you about. I don’t believe that it has been fixed, made a bit better. It is sort of a mixed bag now. Please see video below. NotMyFault
There are still several open issues, mainly regarding handling of alpha channel adjustments and filters: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/142436-multiple-masks-lead-to-alpha-failure/ https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/137301-curves-alpha-not-working-when-child-layer/ Anti-aliasing and other functions are affected, e.g. using a curve (vector shape) for clipping pixel layers in combination with mask These issues have been reported for Desktop / Windows, exists since the first 1.9 release (>6 month, even if reported at a later time), and affect iPad, too. There are unfixed in this latest beta. In principle, it is absolutely impossible to use any adjustment layer or filter layer which alters the alpha channel as nested layers, e.g. Levels Curves Channel Mixer Procedural texture (imported from document created on PC) It breaks all advanced workflows depending on this essential functionality, even those used in Affinity's official tutorial videos. I would really like to get an statement from Affinity staff if (at all) and when we can expect a fix. I know affinity normally does not provide this information, but this really becomes an annoyance.
