Staff MEB Posted November 15, 2015 Staff Share Posted November 15, 2015 Hello Neil Daubney, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) First you have to set up iPhoto: 1. Go to iPhoto ▸ Preferences, Advanced tab, click on Edit Photos: dropdown and select Affinity Photo from the dialog. 2. Make sure *Use RAW when using external editor* is unchecked, otherwise iPhoto will lose track of the image since Affinity can't save directly the edits from the Develop Persona. Now when you want to edit an image in iPhoto's Library, right-click on the image there and select Edit in External Editor. Affinity Photo will open with the image ready to be edited. Edit your image then do a File ▸ Save. Press the Save Flattened button (you have to save a flattened photo, since iPhoto doesn't support our native format (.afphoto) which is the format selected if you do a Save As). The image will be updated in iPhoto. Let me know if you still have trouble. mattforsbacka
Is there a similar way to accomplish this with the new Photos app in El Capitan? I've gone to Extensions from the Edit button, but Affinity does not appear as an option. I had added Tonality earlier, and that works fine. Your tips and tricks will be appreciated. Thanks. Staff MEB Posted November 22, 2015 Staff Share Posted November 22, 2015 Hello mattforsbacka, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) Unfortunately no. Apple Photos doesn't offer an Edit in external editor functionality (like Aperture or iPhoto) so you have to do it manually. To export a RAW file from Apple Photos go to menu File ▸ Export ▸ Export Unmodified Original.... Then open it in Affinity Photo, edit the image and save in your preferred format. To import it back to Apple Photos go to menu File ▸ Import... and select the file or drag it from the Finder to Apple Photos. You can also access Apple Photos's library inside Affinity Photo trough the menu File ▸ Open then navigating to the Media section on the left. However this will import a JPG version of the Photo not the RAW. Same if you access them trough Affinity Photo Media Browser (View ▸ Media Browser...) The latest Affinity Photo Beta includes six extensions for Apple Photos: Retouch, Miniaturise, Monochrome, Liquify, Develop and Dehaze which cover part of Affinity Photo functionality. Those will also be available in the next update of the Mac App Store version (before Christmas).
