davidj1
Hello, Apologies if this has been addressed; but I was unsuccessful in finding this topic in the Forum. I often use Inpainting. Sometimes rather than healing the area that I am trying to heal, it paints nearby areas of the photo onto the problem area. Can I isolate the problem area somehow to prevent these adjacent areas from being painted in. If so, how? Thanks much! Dave

That is exactly what the Inpainting tool is supposed to do, what it was designed to do. You could try one of the other 'healing' tools to see if it works the way you want. I think the OP may be looking for a feature that has been requested before: the ability to define a source region so that the Inpainting Brush Tool paints onto the problem area using pixels selected only from the defined area. Is that not what the Stamp (clone) Tool does? Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4 Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear. Not really, because cloning copies pixels in a predictable way whereas inpainting doesn’t. Rather it copies pixels exactly, without trying to fit them to target area texture. Also if there is soft edge in the brush, it softens the texture at the paint border, and if there is a hard edge, it shows as a sharp border. Therefore it would be nice to have an inpainting tool where you can select source area. Or, a better algorithm for regular automatic inpainting. Wouldn't the source area need to be similar in appearance to the area around where the inpainting brush is applied for this to produce reasonable looking results?
