amplify
I'm very new to your products, but I like them very much, and I don't think this is something you can do, but I'd love to be able to import layers into my favorite motion design and video editing applications. I'm guessing it's on the development teams at Apple and Adobe to put this support in, but if there is anything you can do, I would be one to take advantage of the feature. Staff MEB Posted November 3, 2015 Staff Share Posted November 3, 2015 Hi amplfy, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) The latest Betas are already able to export layered PSD's that are recognised as such by Apple Motion and Apple Final Cut Pro. I'm not sure about After Effects. amplify 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software | Affinity Quick Reference | Call for Camera Images
RNKLN
In Motion 5, I just tried to import a Affinity Design document which contains two layers and which i've exported as a PSD document. I get the following error in Motion: "The following files could not be imported because the codec is not supported". I've tried all three standard available presets when doing the export from AD, but all with the same result. Any suggestions? The PSD file is attached. Hi, I've just tested this out using the 'Export to Final Cut" preset and it opens in Motion 5 as expected. Have you check your importing the correct version? as I had the same message with the download you've attached, I went back in to Designer and chose the 'Export to Final Cut" preset. Staff MEB Posted October 3, 2016 Staff Share Posted October 3, 2016 Hi RNKLN, It seems to be importing fine in Motion 5 both when exported from the MAS and from the Beta as long as you use the correct export preset: PSD (Final Cut Pro X). RNKLN
Hi mystrawberrymonkey and MEB, First of all, thanks for your help. i've checked and the export mode is PSD (Final Cut Por X). I thought that my use of a Non Destructive Boolean operation to cut out the text could be the cause, but nope, it even happens with two simple layers (one text, one rectangle). I'm on the latest AppStore versions of both Motion and Affinity Designer. The procedure i use is, in Motion 5, use File Browser, select the file and click 'Import'. Staff MEB Posted October 3, 2016 Staff Share Posted October 3, 2016 Hi RNKLN, Open you PSD in Affinity again and export using the PSD (Final Cut Pro X) preset, then in Motion go to menu File ▸ Import, the Pick Layer to Import dialog will open, select All Layers from the dropdown and it should work fine. RNKLN
It becomes weirder and weirder. I have been able to import a layered PSD from AD. Not sure when i produced that one. With that file it worked both via File > Import (no Pick Layer to Import dialog in sight, just a Audio related option) and via File Browser and using 'Import' button. I then tried again exporting from AD using FCP X output preset and got the same old error message. Staff MEB Posted October 4, 2016 Staff Share Posted October 4, 2016 The file that you attached above didn't work for me either (codec error). That's why i suggested to export it again.
