rob52 Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 First of all hello everyone. I have affinity designer and Im a recording artist who wants to do my own logos and designs. I will describe exactly what I want to achieve to see what else may be required to make this happen. I want to purchase photos online of a mental asylum with a cell. Place a shadow on the beds and crop a reaching arm out of the shadows reaching for a guitar which I will take a picture of and place in the photo with a shadow behind it. Also if possible I would like to be able to put text on the wall of photos to identify the subjects numbers. I know this is oddly specific but could this be achieved with designer and maybe photo as well? Or am I going the wrong direction with these goals in mind. Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions. GarryP Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Welcome to the forums @rob52 That sort of thing is probably best done in Photo but it could probably be done in Designer with more work – personally I’d use Photo. If you need to learn how to use Photo – best to learn the basics first – then the official Serif videos are probably the best place to start: https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/learn/ If you want to find out how to do what you want then you could then have a look for tutorials on “compositing” but be aware that it can be very tricky to get good results and you may need to put a lot of time and effort into it. Depending on the results that you want you may need to put a lot of extra time and effort into learning lots of different techniques so you may need to consider whether you really want to do that. It’s great to learn new things but is that the best use of your time when you could buy the image you need from an artist who already knows what they are doing? I don’t want to put you off doing things yourself but you need to know up-front that this sort of thing isn’t quick or easy. Quote
rob52 Posted July 13, 2021 Author Posted July 13, 2021 Thanks Garry. Sorry for the late reply. This gives me alot to think about as I'm already buried in work in the studio. Bob.
