I just imported an image, developed it, applied some adjustments and finally cropped it. Then I wanted to resize the canvas (intending to add a white frame). But!!  After resizing the canvas the image appeared un-cropped. The other adjustments had been preserved.

Confused!!  What  did I do wrong?

Cropping is non-destructive.

You need to use Layer > Rasterize and Trim to make the crop destructive if you're going to resize the canvas. Otherwise you are just getting the original pixels back that you cropped off.

However, I think that Rasterize and Trim is an operation on one layer. So, if you are making the adjustments before cropping you may need to Flatten the image before doing the Rasterize and Trim. Or, you may want to adjust your workflow to do the Crop and the Rasterize and Trim before you apply the adjustments.

Nothing really. Affinity is a 'non destructive' editor. When you make changes it’s easy to undo them. If you want them to be permanent (destructive in the sense that you can’t undo them), just Rasterize the layers as per Walts advice. Cropping tool just 'hides' unwanted pixels. You can reselect crop tool and change previous crop to reveal more/less as desired. After rasterising the image you can no longer use crop tool to reveal previously cropped areas ( destructive/non destructive examples).
