DaveHoskins Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Hello, I've built a GUI for my plug-in with the excellent Designer, and as it's software I needed to be a set size, so it's in 'pixels' in the document settings. I now realise I need to double the resolution, because the fonts come out far too blurry. Unfortunately changing the DPI does nothing, (in fact doubling the DPI once HALVED the output, which was odd, probably a bug) and I can't change the document resolution because I use many art boards, so it doesn't let me do it anyway. Is there a way of changing resolution painlessly? Quote

DaveHoskins Posted July 7, 2021 Author Posted July 7, 2021 Thanks for replying. Double the dots per inch should double the resolution though? Every other size does NOTHING to the output anyway! Not even setting it to 400 dpi. The export persona doesn't help in any way. I currently have 82 slices. Quote
DaveHoskins Posted July 7, 2021 Author Posted July 7, 2021 I'm exporting to png. I guess I'll have to post an example project to show the problem. I thought vector graphics would save me from these issues. Quote
DaveHoskins Posted July 7, 2021 Author Posted July 7, 2021 Good ideal, unfortunately I use JUCE as the plug-in development API. It's very bad at rendering complex SVGs. Sometimes simple ones with gradients don't even work, plus all sorts of gotchas and other foibles, makes it an impossible choice to use for me. Like most, people I'm absolutely fine with bitmaps. They've also worked great or me in the past. I just need to increase the resolution without having to do hours and hours of work. But it looks like I'm out of luck Quote
DaveHoskins Posted July 7, 2021 Author Posted July 7, 2021 OK attached is an example 'afdesign' file. The font on it is standard 'Arial'. And it's just a couple of shapes. The main window is 1024x600. I ideally need 2048 x 1200. But I can't seem to export the slices with different resolution. If I set the docs DPI from 72 to 144 halves the output size, but I can't double it! - That's the really frustrating part. Please don't say I have to start again, just because of resolution... Old Bruce Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 ResolutionTest bruce.afdesign I put in a x2 size for the export in the Export Personas. Does that do what you want? DaveHoskins Posted July 7, 2021 Author Posted July 7, 2021 I'm using 'Export Slices', in the export persona, there is no option to do 2x anything. Quote

DaveHoskins Posted July 7, 2021 Author Posted July 7, 2021 Thanks for the screen shot that really helps a lot. So I suppose it's not a big problem to go through 80 odd slices and make them 2x! I just realised I also have remove the add '@2x' suffix as well. 😃 Thanks again. Quote
DaveHoskins Posted July 7, 2021 Author Posted July 7, 2021 Right, OK, I'll be careful - I'm quite the nerd when it comes to art boards, so I'm probably OK! I just had a freeze crash - stuck in a loop somewhere. This is first time Designer has ever crashed on me. I'll post if I can do it again. 😁 Quote

Having a DPI setting makes no sense for a 'pixel' sized image anyway. It's strange that it only let me halve the resolution though. Quote
