Hi!
In this year's #CreateAsUs competition, I saw such a graphic (attachment no1). Can something like this be done in Affinity? After searching google "multi-color, mixed paint brushes" I saw tutorials for photoshop, but no affinty. I only managed to make a brush that changes color, using "edit brush -> dynamics -> hue jitter 100% (cyclic option)", however, as you can probably guess -  my try (no. 2)  this is not what the attachment no. 1;) Can you explain how to get this brush effect? Or suggest how to achieve this effect?

It is possible with some experimentation using a 'New Textured Image Brush'
1. Create a png with coloured stripes (in the case of your image they are graduated separately!)
2. Set background to transparent | set your colours required from stripes
3. Or impor the image to AD and Create Palette from document!
4. Set your dimensions to something like 2000 x 300px
5. Export Persona: Create your slice and output as png (make sure your BG is transparent)
6. Create a new Category and add a brush (New Textured Image Brush) ..play around with settings

Quick experiment....can be improved a lot!
+remember to set stroke to none!

Stuart, how can I "call" you to my answer? Sorry, I'm new here.

Your belt is great compared to my attempts! I will try to do a similar thing, because I have been using AD for a short time and I don't know how to do some of what you wrote - I will contact you tomorrow

We all start out as new :)

To tag or mention a user so they're notified (assuming they want to be notified): type an @ and then start typing their username. You'll get a list of users whose names match what you've typed. The list will shorten as you type more of the name. Click on the name you want. Note: you must type the @ and name. You cannot paste. When it works, you'll see that the name is specially highlighted in your post, e.g., @GoodLuck.

Experimented with this idea this morning. Used textured overlays and graduations with multiple stops to get the effect. Certainly creates some interesting brushes.
Basically a similar effect can be created simply using graduations and filled shapes as below:

Added 12 brushes and new palette to test:

@StuartRc In first - thank you!. Dreams come true :D It didn't come out as neon as yours but it's a matter of practice with colors 429478372_Dzikuje.thumb.png.32a5656d411aa18162f333354f026b83.png

But I have a few questions, because I managed to create a "rainbow brush" but not everything from your tutorial I understand:

(Picture below )

1. "Green" Where I set the export to PNG options - A or B?

2, "dark orange" Did I find the 1x / 0.5x / 0.25 export options good?

3. You made a taper. where did you set it? I'm asking because the brush turned out to be very tapered at the ends. Somewhere I set a value too high, but I don't know where

Thanks again, also for the packages of interesting brushes from you!

For some reason for me the unzipped Stripe.afbrushes file has only one brush in it. Is that deliberate?

For me, too, maybe he meant that one brush was painting on 12 different textures with the overlay on, which gave the effects of the infographic he attached. I'm just guessing, maybe I'm talking stupid things - StuartRT is much more advanced than me; P

Argh Sorry! and apologies!...I uploaded the wrong file this morning.. There should have been 12 brushes!:)

I have replaced the offending .zip file with the correct version..so if you download again it should give you the 12 brushes!

Hi,
Your brush is looking fine...once you get the hang of it it will become much easier!:)

Questions

The Export Persona and slice looks Ok...The 0.5x (50%) 0.25x (25%) etc settings are correct. Just an easier way of draw large/scale down or up!
Export Persona for .PNG (I had to default mine as a lot of the brushes I create are Greyscale or black masks). Once you have set up one slice...with the settings you are happy with...you can then just copy using the copy/paste icons at top of export panel

One thing to edit is the position of the slice relative to the image you are exporting. I tend to leave a gap/ Make image smaller than slice for vector brushes as you can get some blurring with the anti-aliasing on export.. Leaving an insert margin avoids this!

Taper?
I was referring to the taper on each individual coloured line in the brush (pointy end!) But you are correct you can apply a taper to the brush using any of those methods. If you use the Pressure settings on the stroke panel (changes each time you apply tablet pressure if set); sometimes it is useful to save it as a style and re-apply

Tapering vector brushes manually is straight forward..Just create a tapered shape....You can see this in TS3 and TS4 of the brush set attached. So basically make an elliptical shape with the brush objects... I do this a lot ..You can see some of them here
