Joachim_L Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Rotating by the rotation handle and holding Shift rotates an element by 15° steps. This is what is missing in the Transform panel. The steps there are 45°. Using the slider for a 20° rotation is impossible (for me), nearest value I get is 20,571°. I know, that I can type in the value, but wouldn't it be nice to have more snapping steps? I don't like the sliders anyway, because they are (for me) the unprecisest control ever experienced. So please more steps. GarryP 1 Quote ------ Windows 10 | i5-8500 CPU | Intel UHD 630 Graphics | 32 GB RAM | Latest Retail and Beta versions of complete Affinity range installed
GarryP Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I had never used that slider before I saw this thread but now that you mention it, the steps do seem quite arbitrary – approx. 9 to 11 degrees depending on where the slider is. E.g. Drag from 0 degrees upwards and you get 10.3 degrees – a change of 10.3 degrees – but drag down from the -45 degrees snap to the next allowable point and you get -54 degrees – a change of 9 degrees. Not particularly consistent. There may be some reason for this that I don’t understand but the values allowed don’t seem to be particularly useful to me. This does, of course, bring up the question of which values should be allowed. Snapping to steps of 45 degrees for a rotation is quite reasonable in this case but what should the interim steps be? 5 degrees seems reasonable but I don’t think the sliders are wide enough for this to be practical, especially when the pointer is near a snapping point. So, with that in mind, would you allow me to add a ‘rider’ to your request and additionally request that the sliders – all of them, not just this one – are made much wider to accommodate better user control? They are only on-screen temporarily so why not make them much wider? I might make them a bit ‘uglier’ but it would make them more useful, and I’d say that it is usefulness that’s important here rather than ‘neat’ visual appearance. Joachim_L 1 Quote
