Vophsigem Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 I am creating stickers. I am using text at 20pt and then exporting the slices. I haven't changed any of the properties in the slice function, but the shorter words are exporting much bigger than the longer words. The longer words are really small. How do I get them to export at the point size that they were created at? I took a single screenshot to show the exported slices rather than upload the actual png's. Quote
Old Bruce Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 I am just guessing here, I think you are viewing in the OS file browser and it is scaling the pngs to the same width and thus the height is different. The pngs should be the same height if you look at them at 100%. Vophsigem Posted July 5, 2021 Author Posted July 5, 2021 I'm actually viewing them in the file folder. How do I change the view to make them 100% if they are not already? Quote
Vophsigem Posted July 5, 2021 Author Posted July 5, 2021 I tried changing the view in the folder to small, medium and large icons to see if that would equalize them out. I also tried opening the png's in Designer and they are the same size as what the folder view shows. They should all be 20pt, but they are different sizes. Quote
Old Bruce Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Well they probably are. I don't know if there is a view at 100% option, you'll have to place them into a Designer or Publisher or Photo document to be certain. This is just one of the drawbacks of the various options for viewing previews with the OS. Vophsigem Posted July 5, 2021 Author Posted July 5, 2021 I haven't found a difference in size with my graphics when viewing in the file folder. That may be an issue in Mac, but mine have always been true to size. I appreciate the try though. I saw a video on youtube that addressed this issue and I can't find it now. She changed some setting in Designer and they all came out the right size. I played with the slice settings and couldn't get it to work so I'm hoping someone here will know. The size shouldn't arbitrarily change, they should be the same as the artboard. Quote
Old Bruce Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 I am confused by what it is you want. Do you want all the words to be the same height in Pixels or Points? I will wager they are. It is just that the screenshot shows the file browser giving you a preview of the artwork. That preview has a maximum size for height and width, the artwork is scaled until one of them hits that maximum and then stops. Small ENORMOUS Those two words are scaled to the same width. Here is a copy or your screenshot of the file browser, the words are most likely the same height. They are all the same width. It might be more helpful if you posted a screenshot of the Export persona showing the bounding boxes & headers of your slices as they appear in the workspace. Vophsigem Posted July 6, 2021 Author Posted July 6, 2021 It's all the same file and it's big. Do you know how to fix this? Quote

Make a new document and use File > Place to place the png files, the ones named Slice5 and Slice8 (Gas and Assistance). I will wager they will be the same height. As noted above, whatever you're using to display the thumbnails is simply using a different magnification. For example, I used 20pt and typed the words Sewer, Gas, and Electric. I then exported each word as a PNG. If I display the directory using Fastone Image Viewer, I see the following: Note that the height of all 3 in pixels is the same (though I'm not sure why Gas came out at 63px rather than 62px). That height is derived from the pt size of the text. But note that the letters are different in appearance in all 3, because the application is zooming in so the length of the word fits within its standard image box. Thus, Gas is shown significantly taller than Electric, as it is much shorter. Sewer is shown a bit taller than Electric, as it is a bit shorter. If I open all 3 in Affinity, zoom to 100%, and examine them, I see they all have the same height visually: Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Please post any two of your png export files, preferably ones that appear to use very different point sizes. Or just open them in Affinity, set the zoom level to 100%, & compare them. You need to make sure (a) that you are looking at images, not at thumbnails and (b) that you are looking at them at the same zoom level.
