Data merge not respecting localized decimal/group notation

Hi there, 

As far as I can tell Publisher doesn't respect the OS level (or Excel-level) separators for grouping and decimal. So a thousand dollars which appears correctly in Excel as 100.000,00 €, data merge makes it 100,000.00 € for some reason.  

Is it something wrong on my end or it's a bug? If it's a bug, is there a workaround?
