Selection to Mask - Image Retains Border

Hello! Hoping somebody might be able to help me.

I am cutting out some people in Photo using the Selection Brush Tool, using Refine and Output: Mask.

After this, I'm copying the layer into Publisher (final piece document), but am finding that there is a border retained after masking, and if I try to paint this away in the mask it makes the background a slightly off colour. I have attached a screenshot to demonstrate what is happening, and a document where the effect is happening.

I'd appreciate any insights!

Bizarrely, I can't see the small borders no the image has uploaded, though I can certainly see them on the JPEG on my computer.

Hi @Ami_M,
These issues are caused by masks edges. You can either clip the whole images inside a bit smaller rectangle (than the image) with no fill to hide/clip the edges (where applicable) or fix the mask's edges directly as shown in the clip below:

Hi @MEB, thank you so much for that. I think a critical step I was missing was changing to CMYK, as I was getting some odd results, and it seems to have worked perfectly when you've done it. Really appreciate it, thank you.
