Affinity Photo crashes if I choose one certain Assets category

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm afraid, I was negligent and caused Photo to crash repeatedly.

How I created the problem: I drew a blurred pattern, applied the adjustment layer "Levels" to it and made a "New Pattern Layer from Selection". After that I decided to add the pattern to the Assets. Now,every time I click on the certain category I stored the pattern in, Photo crashes. Seems that the category will be broken til the end of all days. But the other categories still work.

Seems that the adjustment layer is too much for the Assets feature. I already have several seamless pattern layers as assets, and they work pretty fine.

I found this thread concerning this kind of problem, but I can't find "Reset Assets". Hope that I will not have to reset or reinstall the whole App. The damaged category is expendable.

If you press and hold CTRL/CMD whilst Affinity starts up your will see a reset menu including the options Reset Assets.

Two methods of resetting Assets:

  1. Press and Hold the Ctrl key while starting the application, releasing it only after the Clear User Data dialog appears. (Note: on Windows you may need to watch for the application icon on the Windows taskbar, and click it, before the dialog will appear, but keep Ctrl pressed until you get the dialog.) In the dialog, uncheck everything, then check Reset Assets. Then press Clear.

  2. Delete the assets.propcol file from your "user" folder in the application's application data folder. You can find the folder using the information in this FAQ article:

Important: Both of these will remove all your Assets except those that come with the application initially (if any). Assets that you have purchased from the Affinity Store and that you install via the My Account feature can be automatically reinstalled. But any others you've created or installed yourself will need to be reinstalled from a backup. So make sure you have exported good backups of them as .afassets files by using the hamburger menu in the Assets panel before doing the Reset.
