La versión Affinnty Designer de la tienda de apple store y la de la pagina web traen las mismas funciones o hay diferencia? ¿De dónde me recomiendan comprarla? ¿De la tienda de apple o de la pagina web?

Hi and Welcome to the forums @ferral007,

There is no difference between the two.

Myself personally I would buy from the Serif website just because I would like them to get the money, Apple has made more than enough from me over the years.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I did not test it myself, but as far as I know you cannot use plug ins like the Nik collection when you purchase from the Apple App Store. So I would recommend you buy from the Affinity website. I would do so, if I hadn’t bought already from Apple. Supporting Serif is another point I hadn’t in mind unfortunately.

I use the Windows OS, and will not purchase any app from them. Why? Because MS and Apple both Sandbox the apps purchased from them. They control how those apps, apps they did not produce, function. What Monty242 pointed out is a very good example. They don't think you should be able to use the Nik Collection with Affinity Photo, so they make it near impossible to do so.

This is my opinion... I think Serif would have very good grounds for civil litigation against these two, for placing restrictions on how their (Serif's) products can be used. I think they should demand that these sandbox restrictions be removed, if not they would owe Serif damages. Again just my opinion. ;)

FWIW, I bought AP from the Mac App Store & I have no problem using the older NIK collection from Google or the Filter Forge 9 plugins.

As for suing Apple for the sandboxing restrictions, that's a non-starter for several reasons, among them that sandboxing does not restrict how the Affinity products can be used -- it is certain third party add-ons (specifically plug-ins) that will not work with AP, & sandboxing is not the only thing that prevents many of them from working with AP.

it is up to Serif & the plugin maker to figure out how they can be modified to work with AP. It may not be simple or easy to do so but sandboxing by itself is not an insurmountable problem, at least for the Mac App Store version.

I prefer to purchase from the Affinity Store, because this way they get all the money. I still have Designer from the App Store, but will switch to the Affinity Store when v2 is out.

The only disadvantage, when purchasing from a company's store, is sometimes that they don't allow you to install the software on your desktop and laptop. As far as I understand, with Affinity you can install it on any of your computers.

Affinity apps bought from the Mac App Store (MAS) also support Family Sharing, which means other members of the family can install them on their computers using their own Apple ID. It is also possible to automate installing apps bought from the MAS on multiple Macs. For some buyers, one or both of these possibilities may make buying the MAS version preferable.

Anyone buying from either the Mac App Store, or the Microsoft Store, should also be aware that those Stores do not allow installing older releases of the applications. So if you let the Store update you to a newer release of your Affinity application, and you find problems, you cannot go back to the older release without doing some kind of restore from a backup.

This suggests that anyone buying from one of the non-Serif Stores should:

  1. Not allow the Store to upgrade them automatically to a new release. They should upgrade manually when there is enough experience (via the forums) that the new release is working well. And
  2. They should have a good backup strategy to allow them to revert to an older release if needed.

I think a good backup strategy is always a good idea but waiting to install a new release based on what the forums say about how well it works might not be, at least assuming that there is a a good backup strategy in place.

That's because there are several different reasons an update may not work well for some users but works very well for most others. Users that are having problems are much more likely to post about them than are users that are having no problems, so it is easy to get the idea that the update itself is problematic when the reality is something different.

So I think what makes the most sense is to make sure you have a good backup in case something goes wrong, but go ahead & install the update & see how well it works for you.
