Hello. I am about to switch from Corel to Affinity. My questions are 1) apart from SVG is there a way to import CDR files? And 2) is there any sort of trace function in Designer.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums @Mike Siggins,

1. Other than SVG, you can use PDF.

2. Trace function- No.

Do you have a subscription or perpetual version of CorelDraw? I still have CDGS 2017, and see no reason to uninstall it or completely dump it. It has a lot more capability than Affinity products. It should because it's been Corel's flagship for decades, while Photo and Designer are scarcely 5 yrs old.

Affinity Photo 2.6..; Affinity Designer 2.6..; Affinity Publisher 2.6..; Affinity2 Beta versions. Affinity Photo,Designer 1.10.6.1605 Win11 Home Version:24H2, Build: 26100.1742: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5820K CPU @ 3.30GHz, 3301 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s);32GB Ram, Nvidia GTX 3070, 3-Internal HDD (1 Crucial MX5000 1TB, 1-Crucial MX5000 500GB, 1-WD 1 TB), 4 External HDD; Wacom Intuos 3 PTZ-431W

Dear Ron. Thanks. I had heard about PDF being readable for vectors. I will experiment.

To answer your question, I have been a user of Corel Draw since v3. I know it pretty well (!) and it does everything I want it to. But my licences were stolen in a house move and Corel claimed they had no trace of me as a registered user. So, long story, I am annoyed with Corel and have ended up with Home edition (v18).

As I am soon producing output for boardgames, I need to go commercial and CMYK. I feel slightly concerned that I am moving from one proprietary save format to another.

I expect I will find a way to use both in tandem.

Your quick response and input is much appreciated.

Mike
