Gerry_OneEyeVision Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 I created a document that now contains 240 pages. The pictures are linked in. Whenever I start this document, I have to wait at least 5 minutes before I can begin any action. When I click on a picture, or want to edit some text, I have to wait a few minutes before the program responses. I am now trying to replace a few small JPG's, and every time I click on a picture, publisher freezes. I have to end publisher with the Task Manager, start over, and again have to wait a long time before I can start working. Every change I have to save, because chances are big, the program will freeze again. It is impossible to work with it. I have the latest version of publisher on a windowd 10 system with 32 gigabyte of Ram, plenty of diskspace. Quote
Staff Gabe Posted June 30, 2021 Staff Posted June 30, 2021 Hi @Gerry_OneEyeVision, Can you try the same in the latest beta and see if it's any better? We've have plenty of performance improvements for large documents. Quote

A lag at the start is partly due to the fact that APub checks the linked content for its presence. If you have a lot of linked content, the check takes time. Another factor can be the location of the linked content. A slow (extern usb) hard drive or even outsourced content from cloud storage can slow down the execution of Affinity Suite programmes. And another factor could be the CPU. Gerry_OneEyeVision Posted June 30, 2021 Author Posted June 30, 2021 My system configuration: Operating system: Windows 10 - Home Premium Edition Version: 10.0.19041 Application architecture: x64 System architecture: x64 Logical processor count: 8 Processor speed: 3,5GHz SqLite Version: 3.34.0 Built-in memory: 32719,2 MB Displays: 1) 2560x1440, 2) 1920x1200 Input types: Multitouch: No, Integrated touch: No, Integrated pen: No, External touch: No, External pen: No, Keyboard: No Graphics Processor Info: DirectX: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (27.21.14.5671) The hdd where the files are located: Western Digital 3 TB Red 3.5" SATA III The disk containing the Affinity file is st2000dm001-1er164 a Seagate Barracuda After starting the document, it takes about 15 minutes before I can get anything done. The document has more then 300 pictures in it. So if it is going to check all the images each time you start, you get a lot of wasted time waiting for the file to be loaded. But this is probably by design. Perhaps it should be a choice to check all the pictures each time you want to edit the document. Quote

We've have plenty of performance improvements for large documents. Well Gabe, It is like working with a completely other program! I can jump from page to page and start editing right away instead of having to wait for more then 30 seconds. As far as speed concerns This is a major step forward! Thanks for this. I just hope it will be released soon. Regards, Gerry Gabe 1 Quote
Gerry_OneEyeVision Posted June 30, 2021 Author Posted June 30, 2021 Just now, Gabe said: That's great! It is, and since I tried it so fast, I did not even notice that my spotify just keeps singing without stuttering. In taskmanager, processortime does not jump to 98% al the time, it stays at aproximatly 30%. same with memory it now stays at 77% in stead of hitting 100% all the time. This is a great improvement. Thanks for the good work! Gerry Komatös 1 Quote
ABI_ Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 I have a similar issue. I am working on few documents with more pictures that text - A3 size for print. File size is about 170MB, my desktop is quite new so power should be no issue. 64GB RAM, 3.6Ghz CPU, windows 10. When I save then all goes silent and I have to go to task manager and shut it down from the detail tab (end process tree). Then it starts again ok (mostly, sometimes not) until the next save. Could you please help? Quote
Staff Gabe Posted July 6, 2021 Staff Posted July 6, 2021 Have you tried what I suggested in my first from here? Quote

With large documents, after opening with the 1.9 version I just let the programm do its things for about 15 minutes. When I tried again the performance was ok. With version 1.10 I could start working immediatly after opening the document. My document contained 240 pages on A4, and had more then 300 pictures in it. Hope this works for you too! Anyway I will give it a try and let you know how it goes. Thank you for your help so far. Quote
ABI_ Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 From a quick initial test it looks a great improvement! Can't judge the speed as today using remote desktop but important thing is it seems stable with no crashes or freezing, or disappearing part of user interface it after exporting to pdf. Can save and continue working as normal. Scrolling through pages seems very slow and delayed but again may be due to remote desktop. Thanks for your help. Quote
