I am trying to set up a data merge grid for Avery labels L7160 where there are vertical gutters but NO horizontal gutters. This is a very common label feature. The data merge tool only gives gutters in both directions. Is there a hidden setting or a different method? Am I missing something? This is rather crucial otherwise the labels will fall out of alignment across the sheet.

Thanks.

In another topic I suggested setting up the data merge to give you 1 label per page, and then Printing the resulting merged document using the N-Up setting in the Publisher Print dialog.

Another user suggested setting the Gutter to 0, and just doing the layout using Guides to help position the boes you draw using the Data Merge Layout tool.

For example, specify a gutter of 0, which handles the horizontal one. For the Vertical one, just make the boxes enough wider than the actual label that the right edge of the box also includes the vertical gutter. Then just don't put any data in it.

It seems by design there is no separate gutter for rows vs. columns.

As a compromise / workaround you might try instead …

… the option "Preserve Cell Size" to influence the visual gutter by altering one cell dimension
… not using the gutter & set the cell sizes (incl. gutter) as needed

p.s.: you can easily add (+) the gutter of the template to your cell size by using the calculation tool in the value fields of width & height.

Thanks, everyone. This is all very helpful. Thanks for all the time and effort put into your replies. I have, in parallel, posted a feature request for separate horizontal and vertical gutters settings in the feedback section.

Best wishes. GM33
