Adios Adobe
I create new 'New Fill Layers' dozens of times a day and it always bothers me that I can find no 'Fill Layer' icon available directly from within the Layers panel. I need this for easy access as having to navigate to and through the 'Layers' menu every time I need a new 'Fill Layer' is slowing my workflow down. Is there any 'key modifier' so that when the user clicks on the create new layer icon while a specific key is being held down, it will create a new fill layer instead? Thanks. walt.farrell
No, there is no modifier key nor a way to do it directly from the Layers panel. But you do not need to navigate through the menus. You can assign your own keyboard shortcut key for Layer > New Fill layer, via the Affinity Photo Preferences, Keyboard Shortcuts: Adios Adobe 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. iPad: iPad Pro M1, 12.9": iPadOS 17.1.2, Apple Pencil 2, Magic Keyboard Mac: 2023 M2 MacBook Air 15", 16GB memory, macOS Sonoma 14.1.
Old Bruce
You could set up a keyboard shortcut to make a new fill layer. Check the preferences with the keyboard shortcuts in the Photo + Layers section. Working on a large editorial system long ago I set an all-user shortcut key to Shift+B. I didn't half get some grief when people tried to type "Bristol".
