Affinity Publisher Customer Beta - 1.10.0.1098

Recommended Posts

  • Staff

Status: Beta
Purpose: Fixes / Improvements
Requirements: Purchased Affinity Publisher
Mac App Store: Not Submitted
Download: Download
Auto-update: Not Available

---

We are pleased to announce that Affinity Publisher Customer Beta 1.10.0.1098 is now available as a download from the link above.

If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.

Due to current and anticipated changes to help with performance issues this version is now 1.10.0 and replaces the previous 1.9.4 beta. All previous changes from 1.9.4 have been rolled into this beta.

As such, we strongly recommend that you do not use this beta for real work as data could be lost and the files you save are not guaranteed to open in previous / future versions of Affinity Designer.

---

Just a quick note to say that this new version crashes almost instantly every time I open a file created in previous beta version.

Was a bit concerned after reading crash comments above. I'm on an M1 Macbook Pro and opened a document that I made with the previous AP beta and so far no crashes yet. Speed of opening is ridiculously fast, but it was also fast on the previous beta.

No crashes here, but I have only a limited number of files created in any previous beta version to test wiyth.

So maybe one of you seeing the crashes could post one of your files that crash the beta here, so I & possibly others can text with it?

I have crashes in windows, too. Document opens and after 3-4 sec closes. Missing Resourses. (after YES, or NO, or resource manager apps closes after 3-4 sec without any report).

Thanks we have replicated this problem and as you say it affects both macOS and Windows for some documents

can you post an example document that is known to crash and see if that happens also with M1. Or, will you test on M1. I need to see if I need to revert to an older beta.

Thanks, @Old Bruce. That one crashes 1.10.0.1098 on Windows, too.

Work in progress

Interesting! It opens in the 1098 Mac beta &  then promptly crashes. But it opens fine in the Mac 1.9.3 retail version.

Thanks Walt,

I have tried with many variations of Performance preferences here on my Mac and it always crashed. Nice to know it is something with the file and or the beta. Makes me wonder if the previous beta was the problem. I am in the process of rebuilding the file in this one.

When you launch Affinity Publisher (including this and previous betas), it opens any files that were open when you last closed Publisher.

I had been working on a file imported from IDML.

Every time I open the latest beta, it opens that file and crashes immediately.

My bypass was to open the previous beta, which also opens that IDML file, but does not crash.

Then I close the imported IDML file, and close the old Beta.

If I now open the 1098 beta, it opens fine without trying to open the IDML file.

If I do try to open the IDML file, it crashes.

But it doesn't remember that file, so I can relaunch the beta without it trying to open the IDML file again and crashing again.

So I have a way to launch the 1098 beta without an immediate crash.

But it doesn't give me much confidence to use it (although I do love Publisher)

I think that's controlled by a Preference in the General section:

Thanks @walt.farrell and @R C-R, but suppose you're in the situation I described where that preference has not been set, and a new beta of the app crashes on startup opening a certain document.

Then you never get a chance to change the preference before it crashes.

So you have to either reinstall the previous beta, or, I presume, delete the offending document.

Maybe try zipping that document into an archive & delete the original? That way, it should not open on startup of the app & possibly not crash.

Hold the Ctrl key will starting the application, and release it once you get the Clear User Data dialog. There's an option there not to reopen the active files, just for this situation

It is the second item, "Don't Restore Window & Documents," right?

Probably. I didn't feel like starting one of the applications to check.

@walt.farrell

many thanks - that's the information I needed.

On the Mac, it's CMD + open the (with Publisher Beta) the "don't restore documents" option is under the General tab of preferences.

No, it's still Ctrl on the Mac, too. This is one of the cases where Ctrl is used on both Windows and Mac.
