This is a style that is wholly formed (unlike the meat), that could be in a book similar to the idiots/dummies' guides to... from the 1990s.

I dunno if that's good or bad, but thanks!

I took my cues for this from old-school animation (everything I do is kinda old-school) – a lot of what I referenced was in a book called Cartoon Modern, which I recommend for anyone who is a fan of golden-age animation and/or the design of the 50s/60s.

I've just seen the link you just mentioned and the first thing that popped into my head was the Pink Panther/Inspector Clouseau/The Little Man (So! That's what he was called!) cartoon characters.

I thoroughly recommend this book, Animation Art by Jerry Beck; as it a bloody good read and is heavily laid out with the rare balance of style (font and layout) and timeline and category. Some pages are white text on black, others are black text on white and colour.

Most of the images are of a decent size. Good enough to scan. Will grace any coffee table.

Do I like it? I own it!

Absolutely brilliant! Such a great scene, well layed out and pulled off with such distinctive style.

I likes it, I likes it a lot! :)

Thanks George!

@Peter – agreed. This is character animation at its most brilliant and minimal (I own all of these on DVD, natch)

That poor bloke he was seeing pink; when he was supposed to be seeing red...it's enough to give him the blues! This cartoon only time when I like Jazz. The opening note reminds me of the Italian Job.

As for DVDs, I own the complete Public Information Film collection. You know Charlie says....This is to blame for me putting PIF messages on George's Eejits! So why didn't these ads warn us against Jimmy and Rolf? Don't have nightmares!

Should I get on Mastermind, with PI films and TV ads as my specialist subject?

It's really scary how the clues were there all along and how corrupt the powers-that-be protected that evil ring of famous notorious monsters.

Hindsight is a truly wonderful thing

As for my, So why didn't these ads warn us against Jimmy and Rolf et al? question; I think a lot of their victims will have asked this again and again. Here's to their collective recovery and lets hope it never happens again.
