I wanted to draw a simple cross...

Just in case anyone is interested, here’s a Maltese-like cross made from two cogs.

Nicely thought out! (Am I allowed to say ‘cogitated’?)

P.S. Here’s a completely different kind of Maltese cross:

You're making a very good case for a dedicated tool...

But like @Alfred said, unless it had lots of adjustment parameters (for number, position, & size of its arms among others) it would not be of much use for creating more than a very few types of simple crosses, the same ones that can easily be made using the methods already mentioned here.

There was a time when Serif apparently had quite a lot of vicars among its customers, probably producing parish newsletters...

On the subject of fancy - and more awkward to draw - crosses, here is a quick version of a Cross of Lorraine, apparently originating in Hungary or possibly Belarus. Apparently it was the symbol of the Free French in WWII.

There are also a bunch of avalable glyph fonts which already offer xx different cross signs. These are easy to reuse and vectorize further on demand if needed.

Well, interesting discussion and I’ve learnt a lot. And that’s why I have a question about shapes too. Is there a possibility to add shapes to the shape tools? The crosses I’ve download (Thank you Alfred!) are fonts, and I know how to insert them.

Sometimes I like to use some vector based icons (fork and knife, car, different kind of arrows etc) but I don’t know how to insert them. Any solution? Thanks in advanced!

Using Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer for iPad.

No, you can't add new shapes to the shape tools.

However, if you find a vector fork and knife, car, etc. you can add them to the Assets panel (assuming the iPad has the same functionality in this area as the desktop versions that we're discussing here).

Yes, the iPad version has a Asset panel too! Thanks for the info!
