I know some people find it annoying, but I use the double tab to make a full stop in a sentence a lot.

Wait, you mean software actually does this intentionally?  I had actually been thinking that had to be a bug, it is so stupidly annoying as I usually bump into that while typing monospaced text and using a series of spaces to align things for display on a terminal or some such...

Now that I know that, I finally went in and found that I can indeed turn it off. YES!!!

THANK YOU!  Getting rid of that will make life much easier!

it works in textedit but not Publisher

Affinity doesn't use Apple's NSText framework for text objects.

Funnily though, it works in any input field – which are obviously based on NSText.
Sooo…
Let me introduce you to the workaround #3929:

  • use e.g. the Preferences > Filler Text input field as your "plain text notepad"!

MacBookAir 15": MacOS Ventura > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // MacBookPro 15" mid-2012: MacOS El Capitan > Affinity v1 / MacOS Catalina > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // iPad 8th: iPadOS 16 > Affinity v2
