daveconrey Posted June 10, 2021 Posted June 10, 2021 I'm not sure what's going on, but I have been getting the spinning beachball of death much more often while working on moderately sized documents (3600x5000 ppi with between 10 and 15 layers, for example). Since buying this MacBook, I haven't experienced this problem much, but it's become a lot more frequent in the last few days. I had not updated my Photo since the last update, so I updated, and the problem persisted. I ran through my system, cleaning up cache, rash, ram, and unnecessary files. After a reboot, it's not happening as frequently, but it's still happening. I also know there is a minor Apple OS update that I haven't done yet, but I can't imagine this is the problem... or maybe it is. That's next on the list. If anyone has any insight, below are all my hardware information. Thank you.
Dan C Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 Hi @daveconrey, Sorry to hear you're having trouble! Firstly can you please navigate to Affinity Photo > Preferences > Performance and provide a screenshot of your settings here? Does this happen in multiple documents, or only certain ones for you? Do you tend to have many other applications open at the time, or only the Affinity app? Many thanks in advance

It's happened in multiple documents, but each are about the same size as I'm working on some posters (12x16" 300dpi). I usually have other programs open at once, but nothing nearly as RAM intensive as Affinity Photo. Usually just a web browser and some support apps. Dave
Dan C Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Thanks for confirming that for me, and for the screenshot provided! Can you please try unticking Hardware Acceleration at the bottom of this dialog, then restart the app as prompted and try editing your files once more - does this provide better performance for you?
All Media Lab Posted June 14, 2021 Posted June 14, 2021 Hi @daveconrey Isn't supposed to be your AMD Radeon Pro 5500m activated instead of the Intel UHD Graphics 630? https://www.idownloadblog.com/2016/10/22/automatic-graphics-switching/ It can because auto graphic switching is activated it switches to the wrong card. I'm not saying it is, but I had that a couple of months ago. Despite the fact that it showed the proper card. I had to switch the switching off.
