ronnyb
Hey guys, Another sore spot to address in the digital design process is the handling of fonts and type selection. It would be awesome if Affinity addressed this part of the workflow with the same level of finesse as the rest of the creative process. Perhaps the addition of a font persona for affinity apps, in various degrees of functionality in each app, similar in some ways to the Export Persona? The basic functionality would entail enabling and disabling fonts, and this would be available for all apps. Deeper functionality for the creation of Font files, could be included in a future release of Designer. Additionally, tools for selecting and previewing fonts/typography can be more deeply integrated into the UI via menus, panels and overlays... 2 more cents... VIPStephan
Hmm, sounds interesting. I’m just not sure whether this will lead to bloatware. This is a pretty specific application in my opinion; and there are separate applications for managing and creating fonts already (i. e. these are tasks that justify their own applications, not just simple extensions of tools). I guess that’s more a strategic decision than anything else. Does Serif want to create a font management/design application? And if so, should this be a “persona” as part of the other applications or a separate “Affinity Typographer” application altogether? I’m just wondering, because with the same argumentation you could create one huge application that includes a “Photo” persona, and a “Documents” persona, and you wouldn’t even need Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher as separate apps. ronnyb
ronnyb
I've already made that request as well, although I'm not sure it fits in with Serif's strategy... :) It would be awesome to be able to purchase/enable separate personas within a master Affinity creative environment. The personas are already functioning as modular apps within Designer/Photo... Roughly speaking there are two sets of users: one works in a corporate/production pipeline, and it makes a lot of sense to separate the apps for those users; then there is working as an art director/creative director across media and use cases, and here the fluidity of being able to switch between personas instead of apps would be a huge boon for productivity and creativity. Obviously there are a lot more people doing the specialized, production-pipeline type work than creative directors / freelancers working on across-the-board uses... Hmm, sounds interesting.
