Affinity Photo - Remove background from picture results in problems

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

I have a problem in Affinit Photo. It is the first time that I try to remove a background from a map. My problem is self explanatory when you look at the attachments. I matched the borders of the right box but then the bezels of the resulting image are cloudy.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you :)Bild_2021-05-26_111336.png.0f80f1aabbf6ee58143acbec2ce5f831.pngOekozonen-Tropisch-Subtropische-Trockengebiete.thumb.jpg.de3b0ca616ddde11de2adf833a1b3eb7.jpg

Hi, nothing wrong on your side ;-)

The map image you are using has it's difficulties: lots of jpeg artifacts at the edges.

To get a clean mask in this case, you may use other workflows, e.g.

- using pen tool to create a curve that covers the globe. Fill color white

- using 2 rectangles to cover the text

- add all curves to a "compound" shape

nest this shape as mask to the map

apply a gaussian blur of 0.5 to 1.0 px via layer fx to smooth the edges.
