AffPub 1.9.4.1076 (Beta) has degraded display of text style samples

Recommended Posts

I've attached an image showing Affinity Publisher 1.9.1.979 and 1.9.4.1076 (Beta) running simultaneously on the same machine, with the same file open.  Because they are running simultanously, they obviously have access to exactly the same set of installed fonts, the exact same graphic drivers and HW, etc.

1.9.1 is on the left, 1.9.4 beta is on the right.  The display of text style samples is typically of what AffPub has historically shown.  The display of text style samples on the right is noticably degraded.  Text display in the body of the document, and in the rest of the AffPub UI, is crisp and clear.publisher_screenshot_cropped.png.9510fb0209ec41bc344ae8452293c2f8.png

Turning OpenCL acceleration on or off does not affect this situation.

Yes, here's a sample of a new document from a fresh launch of AffPub 1.9.4 (Beta).  Screen size is 1920x1080, which is the native resolution of this laptop's display.  The machine is a Dell Precision 7530 laptop and the physical DPI is whatever it is.  Document setup DPI is 300, and is set that way for both the 1.9.1 and 1.9.4 (Beta) examples I gave initially.

[Added in edit] I created a text frame, added some text, and then checked that Body was in Arial font (which it inherits from Base).  It was in Arial font.

Hi,

I have same problem here.
I made several huge poster files in 1035.

After exporting to print ready .pdf (as I use usual) text sharpness in the .pdf get lost a bit.
For testing I reopened both .pdf-files (all under same conditions) in Photo to check.
The Photo file 1076 itself have lost sharpness a bit too.

The 1035 file was already printed before and was completly ok.
At the moment I'm not sure, what will happen, if I will send the 1076 file to print - so wether the problem is a display problem on my computer only or will it have effect on final printing?

I don't think you have the same problem.

This topic is about the font appearance in the Text Styles studio panel, not about how the font looks in the actual document.

I've reproduced the poor quality test style samples on a certain machine, but haven't narrowed down why I can see it on that machine but not another, either way it's now logged with us for some further investigation.

As Walt states @design punch I think you may be seeing something else, on the above machine the text looks fine in document for me even when it was appearing blurred in the text style manager. Are your performance settings the same between the versions?

The display of the text styles improves, a little bit, if you undock the style tab and change the height and width until the scroll bar disappears.

The display error is independent of the font selected.

Gemäss meinen Tests hat die Auflösung der Textstile mit der Skalierung der Windowsanzeige zu tun.

Auflösung 1920/1080

Anzeigenskalierung 100%   = Schrift unscharf

Anzeigenskalierung 125% und grösser = perfekt

Anzeige 3840/2160

Anzeigenskalierung 100% = zu klein

Anzeigenskalierung 150% und grösser = perfekt

According to my tests, the resolution of the text styles has to do with the scaling of the Windows display.

Resolution 1920/1080

Display scaling 100% = font blurred

Display scaling 125% and larger = perfect

Display 3840/2160

Display scaling 100% = too small

Display scaling 150% and larger = perfect

We still struggled to see this consistently internally, but there's a potential fix in the latest beta we have just released. I'd appreciate if anyone who was encountering this issue could check if they still see poor quality samples in this beta

Thanks

Leider verschlimmbessert

Neu werden die Schriften in allen Skalierungen (100, 125, 150, 175%) mangelhaft angezeigt.

Vorher nur bei 100%.

Unfortunately, worse improved

Now the fonts are displayed poorly in all scales (100, 125, 150, 175%).

Before only at 100%.

Probably this belongs to the same topic.

In the text styles in the "Enumeration and numbering" tab and then under "More..."
The punctuation marks are all blurred.
The resolution doesn't matter.
The blur is in 1.94 and 1.10.
