PDF plans (from AutoCAD) not showing correctly in Publisher

Recommended Posts

Hello:

I recently bought Affinity Publisher. Today I was updating my portfolio, which I had saved previously in .IMDL, and after exporting in PDF I noticed this:

The image above is how you see the plan in the PDF exported from Publisher. The following screenshot is how you see the plan in the PDF exported from InDesign:

I know that comparisons are odious but I (always?) use publishing software in works related to architecture, with a lot of plans from AutoCAD PDFs like the one in the pictures, and I can't hand in anything that looks like the first one. Does anyone know what is happening? As I said I'm new to the software, and I may be missing something.

Apart from that, the exported PDF is unable to load all the plans, though there is no problem in loading the photos (.JPG). The portfolio is 22 pages long, but the file is 720.000 KB (12.540 KB the same file in .INDD)

Thank you in advance :)

Welcome to the Affinity forums @BlancaM!

To clear things up for me: Your original document was Indesign and containing images were PDF from AutoCAD? After that you saved your ID document as IDML and opened this file in APublisher? To be sure, the plans looked intact and correct inside APublisher, but not after export? What export preset did you use in APublisher?

But I fear the problem is the complex PDF generated from AutoCAD and APu chokes on exporting it correctly. So, could you upload one of those AutoCAD PDF? If not, as a moderator to give you a private upload link and ask him/her to look after the problem.

Another option would be to install the latest beta of APu to see if this version exports better.

Hello, @joe_l !

Thanks for your quick answer. The answer is "yes" to every question. I exported it from AP as "PDF (to print)" and 300 ppi (sorry, it's in Spanish):

The plans looked correct in AF as you can check here:

I attach the plan. I've just tried to export it again and, as yesterday, it took a lot to load the plans at the beginning of the portfolio. I say at the beginning because the rest of the plans in the document look blurred or are missing.

I really hope it's not a problem with AutoCAD PDF. I used the default AutoCAD PDF printer (as far as I know, the one everyone uses), and it's something I cannot change because it's the only one that works properly :(

Thank you again!

you'll lose the PDF Passthrough feature and instead force interpreting the file

A bug in APu? Opened the OP's file with AD and exported as PDF (Print) and it is looking good (apart from the missing fonts).
