SKD
Hi, does anyone have recommendations for decent plugins for use in AP. I'm a new comer to photo editing and have never used Photoshop so haven't got a 'library' of plugins. I assume that many plugins are just shortcuts for doing what could be done through AP but are any able to do things that would otherwise not be possible? thanks in advance, Steve De1boraEi and Deborahnor
SKD
sorry, just realised this is the wrong board, any way of moving it to Questions?
Staff MEB Posted October 23, 2015 Staff Share Posted October 23, 2015 Hi SDK, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) Topic moved as requested. Regarding the plug-ins, this depends a lot of the type of work you're doing. Some plug-ins are specialised in just one thing, like creating selections/masks and offer specific tools to speed up/streamline the process, others are for purely artistic purposes like transforming an image into an oil painting or simulate a drawing from a photo. If you check some of the sites from companies that develop them, you will have a better idea of what they are able to do (all of them show samples of the results you can get). Some known ones: Google Nik Collection, Topaz Labs, Alien Skin Software, Auto FX Software, AKVIS and there's plenty more. Note that not all of them currently work with Affinity Photo. We are still working on improving Photoshop plugins compatibility. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
SKD
thanks for the links, some of the results look impressive (so do some of the prices!). Steve
ajschot
How can i use my NIK collection with Affinity? Is it possible allready to use it as a plugin? When installing NIK, Affinity is not recognized... so now use it as a standalone program... but is it possible to use it as a plugin like in Photoshop? GaryC
Hey MEB I tried to use the auto fx software but it dosen't read it. Im wondering if I really need it or should I just watch more tutorials and get creative with AP. Cheers, Gary evtonic3
evtonic3
Hey MEB I tried to use the auto fx software but it dosen't read it. Im wondering if I really need it or should I just watch more tutorials and get creative with AP. Cheers, Gary Get creative! I always thought that the greatest design is best when done simple using the principles of art, therefore AD has all the tools you need. As a young aspiring designer (before art college) I thought: I want every friggin plugin I can get my hands on! (Not proud to say how I get them...hehehe) They're fun and cool to trick out your design but long lasting good design does not need plugin help. Staff MEB Posted October 27, 2015 Staff Share Posted October 27, 2015 I agree with evtonic3. If you really want to learn the ins and outs of composing images or working with vectors, there's nothing like trying to do it by yourself. The results may not be that great at first but if you persist and compare the results after a few months of experimentation you will see the difference it makes.
