Jason Snell uses Affinity Designer to further pimp his Numbers charts

I did this a lot with Excel charts, to give them more modern and interesting designs than the average charts done by accountants, and to replace fonts by the ones used in the magazine.

It was the fun part while working on a magazine too technical to be fun.

AD solves a problem for Jason

Hm…

Here’s the workflow: First, I exported my Numbers spreadsheet to a PDF.

Jason, Jason… why so complificated?

Copy & paste, man!
MacOS native PDF clipboard makes it happen.

It looks like there is a difference. When I do a copy-paste from Keynote or Numbers, an image is pasted into AD. When I save as a PDF and place the document, it becomes an embedded document (on which I can double click to open all layers in another AD-tab and change individual colours as Jason also intends to do).

What am I missing?

No idea about Keynote, I don't use it.

Alright, it could also be that I may be "missing" something (not really, but in a metaphoric sense) because I'm sticking to iWork 09 (!) until they will pry it from my cold, dead hands. :DAnd copy & paste native PDF objects from Numbers v2.3 to Designer is literally just a matter of copy… and paste. All copied text and objects intact and instantly editable.

So… no idea how far Apple went on their holy mission of simplifying their office suite to death, and breaking the PDF clipboard exchange along the way. I may need to reboot the Mac from the Catalina partition first to find out…

Right click on the chart and copy as PDF

It's nice to see that Designer is used for this...it can be done directly in Numbers, no workarounds just a simple case of changing the Plot Series to rows from columns, the same as swapping data rows in Excel, just a different route to find it.
