Terminating commands

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one who thinks that terminating commands lacks consistency?

If I double click on a blank space, some commands end, other commands don't.

Another example: I have a table with text containing a hyperlink to a page in my document. I select Go to Hyperlink Target and it jumps to the nominated page and also starts the insert table command. I don't want to insert a table and therefore have to end a command I didn't want in the first place.

It's no big deal, just an unnecessary distraction.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "command" in this context. Can you give a few more examples?

I do not see that happening. The target page is not changed in any way when I get there.

Hello Walt.

Double clicking a blank space after drawing a quick shape ends the command, ditto crop, text frame, etc.

Fill tool and transparency tool don't.

Those are just off the top of my head and if I get any more, I'll post them.

Regarding the hyperlink, the target page doesn't change but the cursor changes from an I (selecting the hyperlinked text in the table) to an insert table cursor on the target page.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am not sure if it is more window handling than command terminating... but, for example for adjustment layers windows there is NO command to make them CLOSE. ENTER – no, ESC – no, CMD-W – affects the whole document. Only way is to reach mouse and click close box. Infuriating.

  1. Click outside the adjustment dialog with the Move Tool selected.
    or
  2. Press Esc.
