Welcome to the Forums @Larry Brookes🙂.  There are no dumb questions!  If you wish to simply enlarge your image while keeping the proportions the same, choose the Move Tool (black arrow), left-click on your image, and then drag the bottom right hand blue little circle with your mouse.  Or the  top left-hand blue little circle.  If you want to widen your image and change the horizontal proportions, then use the Move tool and click on the middle little circle on the left- or right-hand vertical blue line and drag with your mouse. You can also use the Transform Panel to change your dimensions, but since you asked specifically about the mouse, I hope this will help.

Ah ha! thanks for this. I've made some progress. Turned out images are locked when first loaded. That's why the move tool didn't already work. So unlocking the image, allows move to work.

Indeed i can widen, and make other transformations, but the image remains the same canvas size.

How would i widen and increase the canvas width also?

Thanks for helping.

You can change the size of the canvas independent of the artwork/image on it by using menu Document > Resize Canvas...

If however, you wish to alter the size of the artwork as well then you can use the menu Document > Resize Document...

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

If you don't want that to happen, in Preferences > User Interface untick "Automatically lock background layer on import."
