Hello, folks. I have some ProRAW photos in my iCloud Photo Library shot on my iPhone 12 Pro. I am trying to figure out the best way to open these for raw editing in the Develop persona  of Affinity Photo. If I drag the photo from Photos to Finder, I get a jpeg file. If I go to File > Export > Export Unmodified Original..., I am able to get a DNG file in Finder that I can open in Affinity Photo and edit like I want to. But that means that I then have to export it from Affinity and reimport it into Photos. What I really want to be able to do is right-click on the photo in Photos, select Edit With > Affinity Photo, make edits, and save automatically back to my library. But if I try that, it opens as a jpeg in Affinity. Is it not possible to do what I want?

To do what you want, select & open for editing the RAW photo in Apple Photos, & then from the extensions menu select "Edit in Affinity Photo." The RAW file should then open in AP. After you make your edits in AP, close the file, saving it, which will return you to Apple Photos where you can accept the edit or cancel.

Ah, thanks for your reply. I had to enable the Affinity Develop extension, and that does give me some of what I am looking for. It looks like the Develop extension is limited to the Basic adjustments. I usually use at least the Details adjustments too, so too bad those aren't there. And what I'd really like, is to be able to make all of the same adjustments that I usually do in AP: Basic and Detail adjustments in Develop, and then additional layer adjustments in the Photo persona. Without having to take the file out of and back into Apple Photos.

I also have the issue described here:

Thanks again!

The first item in the popup Extensions menu in Apple Photos should be "Edit in Affinity Photo." This should open the photo in Affinity Photo, giving you the full range of features of the app.

If you do not see this open System Preferences > Extensions, click on Photo Editing in the left column, & place a checkmark next to "Edit in Affinity Photo."
